Augsburg, Germany (SportsNetwork. Magneuris Sierra Jersey .com) - Bayern Munich scored four goals in the span of 13 minutes to cruise to a comfortable 4-0 victory at Augsburg on Saturday. The reigning champions were held in check for the opening period, but they managed to regroup at halftime and break the deadlock through Mehdi Benatia in the 58th minute. The defenders goal opened the floodgates as Arjen Robben doubled the advantage just one minute later. Robert Lewandowski struck in the 68th minute to put Bayern three goals to the good, while Robben tacked on another three minutes later to complete his brace and finish the rout. The win lifts Bayern to 39 points, leaving Pep Guardiolas men 10 points clear of second-place Wolfsburg. Augsburg remains third in the table with 24 points. Schalke squandered an opportunity to pounce on Augsburgs defeat, suffering a 2-1 home loss to Cologne. A win would have lifted the hosts to third place, but Anthony Ujah and Matthias Lehmann scored for Cologne to leave Schalke in sixth. Borussia Dortmunds nightmare Bundesliga campaign continued on Saturday as the club suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin. Julian Schieber struck in the 40th minute for the lone goal of the affair, dooming Dortmund to its ninth league loss of the season. Hannover and Werder Bremen split the points by playing to a thrilling 3-3 draw on Saturday. After Lars Stindl and Zlatko Junuzovic exchanged first-half goals, Hannover took a 3-2 lead after the two sides alternated goals in the span of eight minutes. But Davie Selke struck for Bremen in the 89th minute to clinch a dramatic point, putting the club on 14 points for the season. Rounding out Saturdays Bundesliga action, Freiburg and Hamburg played to a 0-0 draw while Stuttgart and Mainz shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw. J. T. Riddle Jersey . Sebastien Bourdais and Mike Conway entered the Honda Indy Toronto overlooked in favour of a championship duel and the return of a hometown driver. They shouldnt have been. Bourdais, who hadnt won a race in six years but previously conquered the 11-turn, 2.81-kilometre track at Exhibition Place in 2004, led all but seven laps in the morning race Sunday to win from pole. He was initially angered when he thought the Saturday race was cancelled by a slippery race track. The race was merely postponed, and Bourdais returned to his car Sunday waiting for his luck to run out. It never did. "Ive got a big smile across my face and I cant seem to get rid of it. Its just really cool," said Bourdais. "The whole race I couldnt stop thinking. I was very stressed out. It felt too easy, it felt like it was too much under control and it felt like it was way going to go wrong at some point. I dont know, it didnt. I was surprised about that because thats what happened all season long so far." Conway, who only competes on road and street courses but won at Long Beach in April, didnt have the pace of his rivals. That showed in the opening race with a 15th-place finish. But Conway saw something no one else did in the second race of the doubleheader. Rain fell once again and caused multiple collisions. Yet, unlike Saturday, the weather eventually showed some mercy and Conway spotted a drying track before almost anyone else. Usually a team tells a driver when to make a tire change. Conway told Ed Carpenter Racing, however, he was coming in on Lap 43 of the 80-minute race. "I knew I had to make a call at that moment because my wet tires were kind of going off and we were only going to go slower, and I knew the slicks would be for sure quicker," said Conway. "So yeah, worked out, worked out really well." The afternoon race had been a fight for the lead between Penske teammates and championship contenders Helio Castroneves and Will Power. But both went to the pits for new tires, allowing Conway and several others to the front of the pack for the first time. Conway took the lead on Lap 51, while Castroneves dropped off the pace. Conway benefited from yet another delay when another collision collected several cars and triggered a red flag. As he waited for the race to resume with less than five minutes remaining, Conway tried not to get too excited. "For sure I sat there in pitlane, I was like, could be another win in the cards," he said. "But I couldnt tell anyone that. For surre you think it but youve got to put it in the back of your mind. Kevin Brown Jersey. quot; For Bourdais, the victory was vindication. The 35-year-old Frenchman finished over three seconds ahead of Castroneves, while Tony Kanaan finished third. Bourdais wont challenge for the IndyCar championship this year, he finished the afternoon race ninth, but the comfortable win was reminiscent of his four Champ Car titles between 2004 and 2007. Champ Car and Indy Racing League merged in 2008 to form IndyCar. Bourdais took a hiatus from open-wheel racing until his return in 2011, but hes yet to find himself in the title race. He didnt seem to care after winning his first race since November 2007 in Mexico City. "To be back on the top step in the way weve done it today, pretty much like the good old days. Its very special," said Bourdais. Last year Bourdais finished second and third, respectively, at Toronto. But his weekend was marred by an embarrassing moment when he accidentally dropped his second-place trophy and smashed it. This year Bourdais held onto his trophy with both hands. James Hinchcliffe never had a chance of winning -- or dropping -- a trophy. The Oakville, Ont., native was eighth in the opening race, matching his career best in Toronto through four years in IndyCar. But he slid into a tire barrier in the afternoon race and had to settle for 18th. It all amounted to more frustration for Hinchcliffe, the lone Canadian left in IndyCar. "Its one of those things, were sitting up here, talking, saying, what do we have to do to catch a break, here or anywhere this season ...," said Hinchcliffe. "The guys gave me a solid car, Im just sorry we couldnt turn it into a result." The biggest winner of the weekend who didnt take a checkered flag was Kanaan. The Brazilian finished third in the first race and second in the afternoon. Castroneves appeared to be set for a breakthrough when he finished second in the morning while Power was ninth. Castroneves entered the weekend nine points ahead of his Penske teammate, and he started the afternoon from the pole expecting to pad that advantage as the 39-year-old chases his first series title. But IndyCar leaves Toronto with the championship still up for grabs with four races remaining. Power, also hoping to win his first title, is just 13 points back after overtaking Castroneves en route to a second-place finish. Castroneves dropped off the pace and finished 12th. "I was very determined," said Power. "Starting on the front row together, so I thought Ive got to beat him otherwise this points lead is going to get too big. Ive got to finish ahead of him. Worked very hard on that." He still has work to do. ' ' '
PITTSBURGH, Pa. Fake Vans . - Da Beard is on his way back to Da Burgh. The Pittsburgh Steelers are planning to re-sign defensive end Brett Keisel to bolster a reconfigured line that has struggled to produce much of anything in the first two weeks of the preseason. Keisel posted on his Twitter feed Tuesday "I am very excited to finish what I started in 2002 with the @steelers. Time to get to work!!" The Steelers decided not to re-sign Keisel in the off-season after the 35-year-old finished with four sacks in 12 games in 2013. Pittsburgh drafted Stephon Tuitt in the second round and signed Cam Thomas as a free agent as part of a youth movement along an aging defence. While Tuitt has been solid during preseason, Thomas has yet to make an impact. Keisel, who turns 36 on Sept. 19, was effective when healthy last season. But with the team up against the salary cap he wasnt going to command anywhere near the $4.9 million cap number he received last year. Its unclear how much of a pay cut Keisel will receive, though the Steelers have a little money to play with after signing kicker Shaun Suisham and right tackle Marcus Gilbert to new contracts during training camp. The Steelers are trying to restore some of the lustre to a defence that finished 13th in total yards in 2013 — the units lowest ranking this millennium. Though rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier put together a remarkable debut in a win over Buffalo last weekend — racking up 11 total tackles and an interception in barely a half of work — the rest of the defence has been so-so so far. The Steelers allowed a 73-yard touchdown run to New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings and let the Buffalo starters roll up 212 yards (but no touchdowns) last weekend. Where Keisel might fit into defensive co-ordinator Dick LeBeaus plans remain unclear. Hell join a crowded, but disjointed situation along the line. Cam Heyward will start at one end in LeBeaus intricate 3-4 scheme, but no player has distinguished himself at the other end. That leaves plenty of room for Keisel to get back to the spot where he helped the Steelers to a pair of Super Bowl victories. He became a fan favourite later in his career, growing a thick beard each year then shaving it off when the season was over for charity. He parlayed the beard into a line of salsa and his "Shear The Beard" event became a highlight on the social calendar in Pittsburgh. The only thing Keisel is concerned about now, however, is getting a team looking to shake off consecutive 8-8 seasons back to the playoffs. "Theres no place like home," Keisel tweeted while announcing his return. Fake Vans Cheap .S. - Nova Scotias Mary Fay guaranteed at least one more match and a shot at the Canadian junior curling championships final on home ice. Fake Vans For Sale . TUCSON, Ariz. -- The McKale Center crowd buzzed in the minutes before the opening tip, more like a post-season game than another conference game. With support like that, its not hard for top-ranked Arizona to get off to a fast start. Charged by the mojo created inside one of college basketballs best home-court advantages, the Wildcats raced out to a big lead and held on down the stretch to remain unbeaten with a 69-57 win over Colorado on Thursday night. "This is why we love McKale; we feel like its like this all the time," said Arizona forward Brandon Ashley, who had 15 points. Arizona (19-0, 6-0 Pac-12) had a week off after blowing out rival Arizona State and was still in a groove early, building a 14-point lead in the opening six minutes. The big lead allowed the Wildcats some leeway in the second half when things didnt go quite as well. Arizona struggled from the perimeter, making 3 of 15 from 3-point range, had a rare night when it didnt outrebound the opposition (32-32) and missed three free throws in the closing 72 seconds to keep the game from becoming a rout. The Wildcats pulled it out thanks to the big start and 44 points in the paint, allowing them to tie -- with the 1992-93 and 1997-98 teams -- for the longest winning streak in school history. Nick Johnson led Arizona with 18 points and Aaron Gordon added 12. "Our second half maybe wasnt as good as our first, but there are always good lessons to be learned from that and still leave with the win," Arizona coach Sean Miller said. A year after nearly pulling off an upset in the desert, Colorado (15-5, 4-3) had no chance for late-game heroics in its third game without leading scorer Spencer Dinwiddie. The Buffaloes struggled to slow Arizonas bevy of scorers and couldnt shoot their way out of the big early hole, falling to 0-16 all-time against No. 1 teams. Xavier Johnson led Colorado with 21 points and Josh Scott added 15 with 11 rebounds. "We dug ourselves a hole," Colorado coach Tad Boyle said. "We had trouble scoring the ball and they made shots. We didnt have an offensive rhythm all night. The Buffaloes split their first two games withoout Dinwiddie, losing to UCLA and beating Southern California after the junior sustained a season-ending left knee injury against Washington on Jan. Fake Vans From China. 12. Arizona was a much stiffer challenge without Dinwiddie, Colorados scoring and assists leader. The nations top-ranked team for seven straight weeks, Arizona entered the game fifth in scoring defence (56.7 points) and shooting percentage against (37 per cent) and was 22nd at defending 3-pointers (29 per cent). Colorado needed someone to step up and no one was able to do it early against Arizonas relentless pressure. Barely able to get passes off much less good shots, the Buffaloes missed their first five shots and had four turnovers in the opening six minutes. Arizona also missed its first five shots, but started dropping them in from all over, building a quick 18-4 lead. The Buffaloes settled down for a little bit, cutting the lead to six with a 10-2 run. All that seemed to do was make the Wildcats play harder. Ratcheting the defensive pressure back up, Arizona hounded the Buffaloes into more missed shots and turnovers, leading to breakouts and 3-pointers at the other end. Starting with a 12-2 run, the Wildcats built the halftime lead to 39-24, holding Colorado to 8-of-27 shooting while forcing nine turnovers. Johnson had 12 at the half and Ashley nine. "We do what weve been doing, just focusing on the process of Arizona basketball and thats just a little glimpse of what we can do," Gordon said. Colorado had a little more success shooting to start the second half, hitting three of its first four shots. Problem was, the Buffaloes couldnt stop the Wildcats. Arizona hit its first six shots, including one by Ashley that bounced off Scott and into the basket and a reverse dunk off a spin move by Gordon that put the Wildcats up 51-31. The Wildcats made 12 of 22 shots in the second half to prevent Colorado from cutting the lead under double digits. "We were playing the No. 1 team in the nation, but they werent that good," Xavier Johnson said. "We didnt come in here with the (right) mindset and its hard coming into this atmosphere." ' ' '
New York, NY (SportsNetwork. Fake Vans Website .com) - San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner was named the 2014 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year on Monday. The award is presented annually to the athlete, team or coach who transcended the year in both athletic performance and character. Bumgarner led the Giants to the World Series title in October, earning a pair of victories in his two starts against the Kansas City Royals before finishing off the seven-game triumph with a five-inning save on two days rest in the finale. What we saw from Madison this year -- and in particular in the World Series -- is the stuff of legends, said Paul Fichtenbaum, Time Inc. Sports Group Editor. Its rare to see someone so young establish himself as one of the best ever, but after three outstanding World Series performances the case can be made that hes the best postseason pitcher of all-time. The 25-year-old left-hander has 67 regular-season wins and has been a part of three World Series championships. In 36 career World Series innings, Bumgarner is 4-0 and holds all-time records for lowest ERA (0.25), fewest hits per nine innings (3.5) and fewest walks plus hits per inning (0.528). Bumgarner is the first Giant and seventh big league pitcher to earn Sportsman of the Year honors. The other pitchers to win the award were Johnny Podres in 1955, Sandy Koufax in 1965, Tom Seaver in 1969, Orel Hershiser in 1988, and Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson in 2001. In all, there have been 15 baseball selections -- 14 players and the 2004 Boston Red Sox -- the most recent being Derek Jeter in 2009. Last years winner was Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Fake Vans 2020 . 1 player in the world. LOUISVILLE, Ky. Nike Shoes Sale . -- Rory McIlroy stood over a 10-inch putt in gathering darkness to win the PGA Championship as flashes from thousands of camera lit up Valhalla like a rock concert. Everyone wanted to capture a moment from golfs latest coronation. In his biggest test, McIlroy played his best golf Sunday to win his second straight major and establish himself as golfs next star. And what a stage. The final major was pure theatre with an All-Star cast -- Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson all with a share of the lead on the back nine. The final two hours were filled with eagles and birdies, with tension and chaos. McIlroy never had to sweat so much to win one of golfs biggest events. And thats what made this major so much sweeter. "It is the most satisfying," McIlroy said. "To win it in this fashion and this style, it means a lot. It means that I know that I can do it. I know that I can come from behind. I know that I can mix it up with the best players in the world down the stretch in a major and come out on top." The final par -- the easiest shot he faced all day -- gave McIlroy a 3-under 68 to outlast Mickelson by a stroke and beat the darkness that threatened to spoil this show. He became only the fourth player in the last century to win four majors at 25 or younger. The others were Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Bobby Jones, three of the games greatest players. Boy Wonder appears on his way to belonging in that group. "I didnt think in my wildest dreams Id have a summer like this," said McIlroy, only the seventh player to win the last two majors of the year. "I played the best golf of my life. I really gutted it out today." But one of the greatest shows on soggy turf came with a most peculiar ending. Three shots behind as he stood in the 10th fairway, McIlroy got back in the game with a 3-wood from 281 yards into 7 feet for eagle. He took the outright lead when all three of his challengers eventually made bogey, and finally gave himself some breathing room. With a 9-iron from a fairway bunker to 10 feet for birdie on the 17th, he took a two-shot lead going to the par-5 closing hole. Because of a two-hour rain delay earlier, darkness was falling quickly and it wasnt certain McIlroy would be able to finish. McIlroy was allowed to hit his tee shot before Mickelson and Fowler had reached their drives. Both were only two shots behind, still in the game. McIlroy came within a yard of hitting in a hazard right of the fairway. Then, the PGA of America allowed McIlroy to hit his second shot. Mickelson and Fowler had to stand to the side of the green. "We were cool with hitting the tee shot," Fowler said. "We werent expecting the approach shots." Fowler had a 50-foot eagle attempt to tie for the lead. He was well off the mark, and missed the short birdie putt attempt that cost him his third straight runner-up finish in a major. Mickelson was short of the green, and his chip came within inches of dropping for an eagle that would have tied him for the lead. Mickelson appeared upset that they had to wait to finish the hole -- not standard procedure in a PGA Tour event -- and he made two references in a TV interview that this is the only championship the PGA of America runs all year. "It didnt affect the outcome of the championship at all, I dont think," Mickelson said. "Its not what we normally do. Its not a big deal either way." Mickelson closed with a 66 and was runner-up for the ninth time in a major. Fowler became the first player in history to finish in the top five at all four majors without winning one. He closed with a 68 and tied for third with Stenson, who fell out of a share of the lead by missing a 3-foot par putt on the 14th hole. Stenson shot a 66. McIlroy hit his second shot into a bunker, and he had to two-putt from 35 feet for the win. He lagged the first one to tap-in range, and the major was his. McIlroy repeatedly pumped his fist before letting out a scream above the gallery that had been treated to a Sunday it wont soon forget. McIlroy won his first two majors by eight shots at the 2011 U.S. Open and 2012 PGA Championship. Only a month ago, McIlroy took a six-shot lead into the final round of the British Open and completed a wire-to-wire win with only a brief scare. This was different. "I think I showed a lot of guts out there to get the job done," he said. It might not have been possible without a 3-wood on the par-5 10th hole. McIlroy watched Fowler make a 30-foot birdie putt ahead of him for the outright lead and knew it was time to get going. He hit his 3-wood lower than he wanted, and further to the left than he wanted, but it turned out perfect. Once he joined the leaders with a birdie on the 13th, none of the contenders made another birdie the rest of the way until it was too late. All that was left after an exhausting day of raw emotions was for McIlroy to summon enough energy to hoist the 27-pound Wanamaker Trophy. He crouched before the presentation, trying to collect his thoughts at the last month. Not since Woods in 2008 has anyone won three straight tournaments, and they were big ones -- the British Open, a World Golf Championship and the PGA Championship. He played them in a combined 48-under par. "Hes better than everyone else right now," Mickelson said. Cheap Nike Shoes Authentic . Scott Kosmachuk scored and had three assists for Guelph, while Kerby Rychel and Robby Fabbri had a goal and two assists apiece. Matt Finn, Zac Leslie and Tyler Bertuzzi chipped in as well. Goalie Justin Nichols made 22 saves for the win. "We have a lot guys chipping in, if one guy is not going one night the next guy is. You just have to work on keeping things simple and getting pucks in. Things are just clicking right now," said Kosmachuk. Nick Paul was the lone scorer for North Bay. Jake Smith stopped 16-of-23 shots faced in 38:11 of work, while Brendan ONeill turned aside 15-of-18 shots in relief. "It was a disappointing loss, they got the jump on us early and we didnt recover from that and the game spiralled from that," said North Bay coach Stan Butler. The Storm scored on two of their three power plays, while the Battalion could not convert any of their three man advantages. Guelph struck early, scoring three goals in the first frame, including two by Suter. The centre opened the scoring just four minutes into the game and added to the Storms lead with a short-handed goal at the tail end of the period to make it 3-0. The other goal came at the 11-minute mark from Kosmachuck. All told the Battalion were outshot 14-4 in the period. "We werentt emotionally attached to the game early on. Cheap Nike Shoes For Sale. We seem to play better when we get intense and involved," Guelph head coach Scott Walker said. "I thought the players did a heck of a job staying disciplined." It didnt get much better for the home team in the second. Leslie scored on the Storms first shot on net and, just 90 seconds later, Dickinson blew the game wide open with his seventh of the playoffs. Smith was finally pulled from the Battalions net after Bertuzzi made it 7-0 with less than two minutes to go in the period. But ONeill didnt fare much better, surrendering a goal before the buzzer. "In playoffs youve got to have a very short memory, because if you dont youre going to dwell on things that are going to affect you going forward. Are we disappointed? Obviously. Are we upset? Extremely. Are we frustrated? No. We got to play a lot better on Friday night," said Butler. North Bays lone bright spot was Pauls goal midway through the third. Rychel and Finn responded for the Storm in period. Game 5 is Friday in Guelph, Ont. "We have a very good leadership group in our room," said Kosmachuk. "They know its not going to be easy. We have to be on our toes and play hard." North Bay has already battled back in the playoffs after being down 3-1. They eliminated the Niagara IceDogs in seven games in the first round of the playoffs. The last time Guelph won the OHL championship was in 2004. ' ' '
BARCELONA, Spain - Lionel Messi and Dani Alves scored second-half goals as Barcelona beat 10-man Manchester City 2-1 on Wednesday to reach the Champions League quarterfinals for the seventh straight season. Yeezy Boost Clearance . Barcelona advanced with a 4-1 victory on aggregate over two legs in which referees decisions — and non-decisions — played a big part. City defender Joleon Lescott replaced Martin Demichelis, who was sent off in the first leg, and had just as much trouble keeping up with Messi throughout the game at the Camp Nou. But Lescott was unlucky as Cesc Fabregas pass bobbled through his legs in the 67th minute to emerge onto the run of Messi, who flicked the ball over goalkeeper Joe Hart with a sublime touch. As in its 2-0 defeat in the first leg, City finished with 10 players after Pablo Zabaleta was booked for a second time in the 78th for protesting after Gerard Pique barged into substitute Edin Dzeko inside the area without a penalty being awarded. Vincent Kompany scored a consolation goal for City in the 89th minute before Dani Alves struck in stoppage time for the Spanish champions. In the nights other match, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the quarterfinals for the second straight season after coming from behind for a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen and a 6-1 victory on aggregate. Both teams rebounded with strong performances after limping into the match on the back of domestic losses. "We had some pretty big setbacks, especially in the way we were playing — but today we got back to playing the way we know, the Barca people love." Messi said. "Even though the goal came in the second half, I dont think we were ever in danger of an upset." City managed to create good scoring chances from the boots of David Silva and Yaya Toure, but manager Manuel Pellegrini could only bury his head in his hands when Messi scored his eighth goal of the competition. While Barcelona did not look in danger of an upset, City will certainly feel aggrieved after Pique was not penalized for his sliding tackle from behind, which saw Citys furious players surround referee Stephane Lannoy and Zabaleta dismissed. "Going for a second time down to 10 men after it was a clear penalty, its not easy conditions to come and play against a strong team," Kompany said. "Over the course of two games, whenever there was 11 players (against 11) there wasnt much between the two teams." Much of Citys hope of overcoming the deficit lay in Sergio Agueros return after he missed the first leg, but the Argentina striker also seemed absent Wednesday despite starting ahead of Alvaro Negredo and Dzeko. Pellegrini watched from the stands as the Chilean served a ban for his criticism of the referees performance in the first match. Though Silva passed up a promising opportunity early on, Barcelona was sharp as Messi repeatedly ran at — and past — Lescott, who seemed to have got away with a trip on the Argentina forward inside the area in the early stages. Messi exploited Citys slow-footed defence to register his 28th goal of the season after having found the post earlier on. City crafted occasional first-half moments, but Hart kept the visitors in it with a reaction stop on Xavi Hernandez before Fernandinho cleared Neymars curler off the line. City went into the break encouraged after Samir Nasri sent Silvas midair backheel flick straight at goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who also tipped Dzekos powerful header over the bar in the 52nd. Aguero came off with an injury for Dzeko to start the second half and immediately lifted Citys attack. Kompany looked to have been in an offside position as he guided Dzekos header home to equalize, but the goal proved fruitless as Dani Alves scored late again, as he did in the opening leg. "We felt that, for this game, these were the tactics to use," said assistant coach Ruben Cousillas, who was unrepentant over Citys decision to play with a lone striker in attack. Pat Quinn, the former defenceman who moved behind the Canucks bench and into the general managers office, believes new team president Trevor Linden -- a player Quinn drafted and coached -- has the potential to return Vancouver to the NHL elite. "There is no magic luxor," Quinn said Sunday after being inducted into the Canucks ring of honour at Rogers Arena. "You have to fix it. You have to have luck, you have to have cap room. "A lot of things come into play." A promising season turned bad for the Canucks, who will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Watching the team this year Quinn noticed a slip in the talent level. "Its cyclical," Quinn said. "The hard part is when your good players skills start to diminish a little bit, then youve got to find replacements for that top level player." A 30-team NHL reduces that talent pool. "We dont have enough top players," Quinn said. Fans will need to be patient. "Thats where the first step comes in, the assessment that needs to be done," said Quinn. "I think thats the stage where Trev is. "Ive read he has a plan. When you have a plan you dont go around telling everybody." Linden was named president last week after Mike Gillis was fired as Vancouvers president and general manager. Quinn shrugged when asked if he will play a role in the Canucks rebuild. There has been speculation Linden may ask Quinn to return to the organization in some sort of advisory capacity. "Its a different day today," said the 71-year-old Hamilton native. "Whatever happens, happens. "Trevor is a terrific kid, there is no question. Im not really thinking about that sort of thing. He has lots on his plate." Quinn was joined by members of his family at centre ice prior to the game against the Calgary Flames for the induction ceremony. Quinn was Vancouvers president and general manager from 1987 to 1997. He coached the team from 1991-94 and then again late in the 1995-96 season. There are some parallels between what Quinn, 71, faced back in 1987 and the task Linden now faces. Quinn took over a wheezing, money-losing franchise and helped turned it into a high-scoring team that came within one game of winning the 1994 Stanley Cup final. "When you are first starting you know one thing," said Quinn. "I always wanted to be a team player. "No one person wins a hockey game, no one person builds a franchise. I got pretty lucky in putting this team together." In 280 games as a coach, Quinn had a record of 141 wins, 111 loses and 28 ties. With him behind the bench the Canucks won two division titles, five playoff rounds and he was voted coach of the year in 1991-92. As a general manager Quinn helped build the Canucks by drafting players like Linden and Pavel Bure. Quinn also traded for players like McLean, Cliff Ronning, Dave Babych, Jyrki Lumme, Greg Adams, Geoff Courtnall and Markus Naslund. It was through Quinn people like Brian Burke, Dave Nonis, Steve Tambellini and George McPhee received their first NHL jobs. Quinn played his junior hockey with the Edmonton Oil Kings, winning a Memorial Cup in 1963. He spent nine years as a player, playing defence for Vancouver, Toronto and Atlanta. He coached the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers. On the international stage, Quinn coached Team Canada to gold medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics and 2009 world junior championships. Quinn said the Canucks may have struggled this year but he sees hope for the future. "When I came here in the 1970s it was hard to find a Canuck fan," he said. "Now we are all Canuck fans. "Thanks for how you treated me." ' ' '
MADISON, Wis. Robin Roberts Jersey . - Wisconsin officials have accused Cleveland Browns lineman Joe Thomas of committing nearly a dozen environmental violations on his hunting land west of Madison. The state Department of Natural Resources sent the former Wisconsin Badgers standout and seven-time Pro Bowler a letter Wednesday accusing him of 11 violations. They range from building bridges and dams and enlarging a pond without permits to tearing down a barn without notice of intent and discharging manure into a wetland.DNR officials want to meet with Thomas on Jan. 6 — after the regular season ends — to discuss the allegations. Some of the violations are punishable by fines of $10,000 for every day in violation, the letter says, but doesnt offer details on the number of days.DNR spokesman Bob Manwell declined to comment on the violations.Thomas plans to attend the January meeting if the Browns dont make the playoffs, he said after practice Friday. He said he bought the land about three years ago and hired a contractor to remove buildings on it.Thomas said he didnt realize the process they had to go through with the DNR and was surprised to receive the violation letter. He thought the agency had decided to settle things by issuing after-the-fact permits, he said.I guess Im a little surprised by how the process has gone because were working together in a lock-step as a partnership with the same goals, trying to get the same outcomes, and so I guess Im kind of surprised its blown up into a big deal, he said. The letter also accuses developer Patrick OConnor and Darrick Luck, who runs a company called Old Wood New Use, LLC, of the same violations. Old Wood New Use demolishes old buildings and recycles any material from them thats still usable.OConnor told The Associated Press in an email Friday that he helped Thomas purchase the land in 2012. It was littered with old farm equipment and dilapidated buildings, OConnor said. Thomas hired Luck in May to demolish the structures and Connor along with some friends cleaned up the trash. An anonymous tipster mistakenly reported a manure spill they drained water from a manure storage basin, OConnor said. Thomas subsequently obtained a manure structure closing permit from county officials, he said.Thomas was waiting for the paperwork for retroactive permits when he got Wednesdays letter, OConnor said. There is no issue here, he wrote. The real story is Joe and his family should be receiving an award for cleaning up an environmental eyesore.Luck declined comment to The Associated Press on Friday morning, but told the State Journal it was crazy for the DNR to demand notification prior to demolition.Thomas was a 2006 consensus All-American and first-team All-Big Ten player at Wisconsin. He also became the first Badger to win the Outland Trophy, an award recognizing college footballs top interior lineman. The Browns selected Thomas in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft. Hes never missed a snap during his pro career and has twice been named the Walter Payton Man of the Year. The environmental allegations came one day after local media selected Thomas as the Browns player of the year.___Associated Press Sports Writer Tom Withers in Berea, Ohio, contributed to this report. Branden Kline Jersey . Hazard lasted just 18 minutes in Tuesdays contest before being substituted with the calf problem, and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes he will be without his star winger for at least the next two weeks. OAKLAND, Calif. -- When Steve Blake checked in at the scorers table with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter, Stephen Curry shook his head and shouted across the court, asking Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson not to take him out. Jackson, a self-described "feel coach," changed his plan. He had Blake enter instead for Andre Iguodala, who looked over at Curry and laughed on the way to the bench. Curry keyed the deciding run later in the third quarter. He finished with 18 points and nine assists on a strained right quad, helping the Warriors hold off the Phoenix Suns 113-107 on Sunday night for their fourth straight win. "I always tell coach Im fine," Curry said. "He always asks me if somethings going on, whether it was my ankle back in the day or something small like this. Im surprised he still asked me because he already knows the answer." David Lee added 26 points and nine rebounds and Klay Thompson scored 22 points for the Warriors, who built an 18-point lead early in the fourth quarter before the Suns surged back. Golden State is 9-2 since the All-Star break and a season-high 16 games over .500. The Warriors are two games ahead of Dallas for sixth place in the crowded Western Conference standings. The Mavericks visit Golden State on Tuesday night. "The guys had a sense of urgency," Jackson said. "They understood how big this game was. They realized we had an opportunity to really take control." Gerald Green had 25 points and six rebounds, and Goran Dragic added 24 points and six assists for the Suns, who dropped into a tie with Memphis for eighth in the West. The Suns also missed a chance to take the four-game season series over the Warriors -- and the potential head-to-head tiebreaker for playoff seeding that comes with it. Each team won both meetings on its home floor. "Thats just the whole point about learning how to be a playoff team," Green said. "Certain things you can get away with on certain nights, but when youre playing a team like this -- a team thats been in the playoffs -- you have to be solid for 48 minutes." Neither team showed much playoff poise in the final minute. Greens layup cut Golden States lead to 111-107 with 38.1 seconds remaining. After Thompson missed a 3-pointer, Andre Iguodala came down with a rebound and the Suns were forced to foul. Phoenix caught a break when Igguodala missed both free throws. Terry Crowley Jersey. But then Green stepped out of bounds receiving a pass from Dragic on the sideline. Steve Blake missed two free throws to give the Suns yet another chance. Phoenix followed that up with Marcus Morris air-balling a 3-pointer, and Iguodala made two free throws to seal Golden States victory. The Warriors outshot Phoenix 52.9 per cent to 48 per cent. The Suns outrebounded Golden State 41 to 35 but committed 20 turnovers, while the Warriors only had 12. "I thought in that third quarter we really got outhustled," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "They were active. They were aggressive for the ball. They wanted it more than we did." With a nagging quad limiting his playing time, Curry shook off the pain and made sure Jackson kept him on the court longer than expected. Curry made a 3-pointer and handed out six assists during a 23-4 run in the third quarter, and the Warriors went ahead 96-78 early in the fourth. Curry shot 7 for 16 from the floor in 30 minutes. "He really took over," Jackson said. Before the game, Curry said that he injured his quad during Golden States win at Boston on Wednesday and began to feel pain again during Fridays victory over Atlanta. Both Jackson and Curry said they will communicate with each other during games to determine when -- and how much -- the All-Star point guard plays. While he looked a step slow in the first half defending Dragic, Curry came through when his team needed him most. After the Suns went ahead by 12 in the second quarter, Curry converted a reverse layup while getting fouled by Morris to start a three-point play that brought the Warriors within one. But back-to-back 3-pointers by Dragic helped Phoenix carry a 61-56 lead into intermission. The Warriors disrupted Phoenixs offence in the third quarter by trapping Dragic at half court. The swarming defence led to several fast-break opportunities, and Curry controlled the offence with near perfection to put the Warriors ahead for good. NOTES: Hornacek said G Eric Bledsoe, who has been out since Dec. 30 recovering from knee surgery, will likely return for Wednesdays home game against Cleveland. ... The Warriors recalled G Nemanja Nedovic from Santa Cruz of the NBA Development League. ... Suns C Miles Plumlee had two points and four rebounds in 11 minutes after missing the two previous games because of a sprained shoulder. ' ' '
NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints have re-signed free agent linebacker and special teams player Ramon Humber to a one-year contract. Silvino Bracho Jersey . The announcement was made Friday by Mickey Loomis, the Saints executive vice-president and general manager. The 5-foot-11, 232-pound reserve linebacker originally signed with Indianapolis in 2009 as an undrafted free agent, playing in the Colts loss to New Orleans in Super Bowl XLIV. A season later, he signed with the Saints and has been with the team since, becoming a key special teams player and a steady reserve linebacker. Since 2010, he has 36 special teams tackles in the regular season and playoffs combined. The Saints finished the season with the leagues seventh-best punting unit, but allowed 25.2 yards per kick return, ranking 26th in the NFL. In 2013, playing in defensive co-ordinator Rob Ryans system, he saw action in all 16 games, starting three of them. He finished with a career-high 24. Fourteen of his tackles came in his three starts, including a four-tackle, half-sack performance at New England. Humber is the first Saints player who hit the free agent market to re-sign with the team. New Orleans watched as safety Malcolm Jenkins signed with Philadelphia. Kicker Shayne Graham and linebacker Keyunta Dawson were scheduled to become free agents before re-signing with the Saints in February. The Saints have been able to make a splash in free agency in spite of having little room to work with under the salary cap. The Saints began free agency less than $3 million under the salary cap. The day Jenkins agreed to play for Philadelphia, New Orleans brought in and signed Jairus Byrd, a three-time Pro Bowl safety from Buffalo. Byrd will make $1.3 million in base salary in 2014. David Dellucci Jersey . The two came together in late May, and have begun training at the Kitchener Waterloo Skating Club with coaches Kris Wirtz and Kristy Sargeant-Wirtz. "Its been really fun to work with Mike these past few days," said Moore-Towers. Everything right now is extremely new, but were having tons of fun on the ice and Im looking forward to the next season." ' ' '
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Kris Letang will play on Wednesday night against the Detroit Red Wings, more than two months after suffering a stroke. Wholesale NFL Jerseys USA . General manager Ray Shero says Letang has been cleared by team doctors. He says it was the 26-year-old Letangs decision whether to play again this season. Letang hasnt played since Jan. 27. He suffered the stroke two days later. Tests revealed a small hole in his heart, which doctors say could have contributed to the stroke. The hole hasnt been repaired, but Shero says the team is confident playing hockey didnt cause Letangs stroke. The 2013 Norris Trophy finalist has 10 goals and eight assists in 34 games this season for the Penguins, who have already clinched the Metropolitan Division title. China NFL Jerseys . -- Alex Anthopoulos spoke volumes with what he didnt say on right-hander Ervin Santana. Cheap NFL Jerseys China . After not scoring 40 points in the opening quarter in the last five seasons, the Rockets have done it five times this season and twice in the last three games. The Kansas City Royals came to San Francisco with one goal in mind: get the series back to Kauffman Stadium. Mission accomplished. Now the Royals will take the field on Saturday with a World Series lead for the first time in team history when they play Game 4 of the Fall Classic against the Giants at AT&T Park. Kansas City grabbed the advantage in the best-of-seven set with a win on Friday, as Kelvin Herrera, Brandon Finnegan, Wade Davis and Greg Holland combined to throw four no-hit innings of relief in a 3-2 win. Run-scoring hits from Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer in the sixth inning provided the visitors with a 3-0 lead, and the Royals held on after the Giants broke through with two runs against Jeremy Guthrie in the home sixth. Holland closed the door by retiring the side in order to give Kansas City a 2-1 lead, while regaining homefield advantage for the visitors, who are now guaranteed at least one more game in their ballpark. I dont know if theres a better bullpen, because that seventh, eighth and ninth inning, and you get a tough go when youre facing those guys, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Guthrie (1-0) allowed four hits, while Giants starter Tim Hudson (0-1) was charged with four hits and three runs over 5 2/3 innings. Its a tough one to swallow, Hudson said. They just did the little things to beat us. Now the Giants will turn to righty Ryan Vogelsong, who has been as good as any pitcher in the postseason in recent history. Well, except for the last time he pitched. Vogelsong only lasted three innings of his NLCS start against the St. Louis Cardinals and was roughed up to the tune of four runs and seven hits. Still, the Giants were able to get a win in that one and Vogelsong remained a perfect 3-0 in six postseason starts, but did see his ERA spike to 2.16. He had been the only starting pitcher in MLB history to allow one run or fewer in each of his first five career postseason starts (since 1903). The Giants have won all six of his postseason starts. Its definitely a siituation where you have to be locked into the game and your thoughts need to be on the game, said Vogelsong. Cheap MLB Jerseys. I think the experience factor is just knowing how to deal with the emotions, slowing the game down like you do every game. Each game brings its own emotions. The big thing is just knowing how to curb them. The 37-year-old hurler, though, hasnt actually won since beating Milwaukee back on Aug. 29. There was a thought that the Giants would go with Madison Bumgarner on short rest on Saturday instead of Vogelsong. Its our confidence in the guy we have going tomorrow, Bochy said of staying with Vogelsong. Were keeping things in order because of how well all our starters have thrown. Kansas City, meanwhile, will try to move to the brink of a title behind left- hander Jason Vargas, who has been terrific this postseason for the Royals. Vargas pitched KC into the World Series with a win over Baltimore in the ALCS, as he allowed just a run and two hits in 5 1/3 innings. He had given up two runs and three hits in six innings of his ALDS start versus the Angels. Its been quite a turnaround for Vargas, who gave up 18 runs over his final four regular season starts and lost five of his six decisions. He was a guy that was consistent for us all year, manager Ned Yost said. Struggled a little bit his last three or four starts in September, but, again, a lot of that was mechanical, and hes made the adjustment. The team that has won Game 3 in a World Series that started 1-1 has won four of the last five and 11 of the last 13 Series. However, the team leading 2-1 is just 42-42 in Game 4. This is the ninth time San Francisco has been down 2-1. In those instances, San Francisco has won Game 4 four times, including four of the last five occurrences, and they have gone on to win the series just once (1921 vs. NYY) Kansas City has never been ahead 2-1 in a World Series. These teams actually met in the regular season, as the Royals completed a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. ' ' '
HOUSTON -- Yu Darvish dominated the Houston Astros last season. Wholesale Soccer Jerseys . This year has been a much different story. Jon Singleton drove in three runs, and the Astros handled Darvish again in an 8-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday night to stretch the streak against their in-state rival to seven victories in a row. Darvish (10-7) allowed nine hits and six runs -- five earned -- in four-plus innings in his second-shortest start of the season. It was his second straight tough outing against the Astros after they tagged him for a season-high 10 hits with six runs in six innings on July 9. "Our hitting coach (John Mallee), hes done a tremendous job with getting these guys information on how we can make adjustments after a guy had success against us," manager Bo Porter said. "And to the credit of our players, theyve taken that information and theyve done a good job against arguably one of the best pitchers in our league." Texas manager Ron Washington said the reason why Darvish struggled was simple. "Just didnt have any command of his fastball and couldnt find another pitch he could go to until he went back to that fastball," Washington said. "Just didnt get comfortable on the mound tonight, had no rhythm. Just wasnt his night." Singleton had an RBI single in Houstons two-run first and added a two-run double as the Astros tacked on four runs in the fifth. Houstons Scott Feldman (6-8) allowed eight hits and three runs with six strikeouts in 6 1-3 innings. He held the Rangers scoreless until Jim Adduci hit his first major league home run with two outs in the sixth inning. The two-run shot landed in the first row in right field to cut the lead to 6-2. Shin-Soo Choo had four hits, and his single in the ninth inning was the 1,000th hit of his career. Matt Dominguezs RBI single after Singletons double chased Darvish in the fifth. He was replaced by Nate Adcock, who was greeted by a run-scoring single by Marwin Gonzalez. Darvish struggled with control early and walked two of the first three batters he faced, with the second walk coming on four pitches. He struck out Marc Krauss before Singletons RBI single made it 1-0. Dominguez followed with a single, and an error on the play by second baseman Rougned Odor allowed Chris Carter to score and push the lead to 2-0. "We were relentless," Singleton said. "We made him throw a lot of pitches, and when he did make mistakes we capitalized on them." Carter, who had three homers in the previous two games, continued his hot-hitting with two hits, including an RBI double in the eighth inning. Houston rookie Mike Foltynewicz pitched a scoreless ninth and wowed the crowd when he threw two consecutive 100 mph fastballs to Odor. THIRD TIMES THE CHARM Texas rookie pitcher Phil Klein struggled in his first two major league outings, giving up homers to the first batter he faced in both. In his third appearance on Saturday night he finally got on track, pitching a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout. TRAINERS ROOM Rangers: OF Mike Carp left in the middle of the third inning with tightness in his left groin and is listed as day to day. OF Alex Rios took a second straight game off after he re-aggravated a sprained right ankle on Wednesday. Manager Ron Washington said Rios will start on Sunday. LHP Derek Holland (left knee surgery) struck out four in three scoreless innings in his third rehabilitation start at Double-A Frisco on Saturday night. Holland hasnt played in the majors this season. Astros: 2B Jose Altuve was out of the lineup Saturday after leaving Friday nights game with discomfort in his neck. Altuve said that he is OK and that he expects to play on Sunday. CF Dexter Fowler (back) made his second start of a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday night. Manager Bo Porter said he expects Fowler to be activated next week, barring a setback. OF Alex Presley (strained right side) took batting practice on the field on Saturday for the first time since being put on the disabled list on July 8. "For the most part I was pleased," Presley said after batting practice. "Just a little stiff, but besides that nothing too major." UP NEXT Texas right-hander Nick Martinez looks to snap a seven-game skid when he opposes Dallas Keuchel. Martinez, who hasnt won since May 24, has gone 0-3 with a 7.29 ERA in his four starts since returning from the disabled list. Keuchel has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last three starts. Soccer Jerseys . If there is one club built to handle an off-field controversy, its the Bill Belichick era Patriots. Now theyre teammates in Boston, the result of a $183 million spending spree the Red Sox are hoping will lift them out of the AL East cellar. Its exciting for me to be with Hanley and David Ortiz, Sandoval said Tuesday at Fenway Park after finishing up a five-year, $95 million contract that adds him to a lineup he called The Three Amigos.About five hours later, the Red Sox completed their day-night news conference doubleheader by announcing Ramirezs four-year deal, which is worth $88 million. A former Red Sox prospect, Ramirez was traded to the Marlins nine Thanksgivings ago in a deal that brought Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett to Boston. Why not go back where you belong? Ramirez said. It worked out for the both of us: You guys won a couple of world championships. Ramirez agreed, saying Ortiz was like a big brother to me.Sandoval is a career .294 hitter who had 16 homers and 73 RBIs in the regular season this year and then hit .366 in the post-season while helping the Giants win their third World Series in five years. He really embodies a lot of what we care about, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said.
