Things started off quite well for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but their January slide has pushed them out of playoff position. Zaza Pachulia Jersey . So whats exactly wrong with the Blue and White these days? The team opened 2014 on a high, defeating the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in a shootout in front of more than 105,000 fans at Michigan Stadium for the NHLs Winter Classic. Since the outdoor win, the Leafs have dropped three straight games and have been outscored 18-5 in those contests. On top of that, the club has just five regulation/overtime victories over their last 31 games and a 4-13 record in the 17 games that ended in regulation. By comparison, the Leafs had 13 regulation/overtime wins in their final 31 games under Ron Wilson. Going into Friday nights game against Washington, theyve gone 2-7-4 in their last 13 road games, are 4-for-43 on the power play and their last road regulation win was Oct. 30 in Calgary. Is it the coaching? Many fans have called for the firing of head coach Randy Carlyle. In his lone full season with the Leafs, he led the team to their first playoff appearance since 2004. But is it possible that his good will with the players has taken a turn south? Many observers have blamed Carlyle for the Leafs defensive system, which has allowed a league-high 36.4 shots on goal per game and league-worst minus-9.2 shot differential. Others argue that the shot totals have been high all year and are nothing new for the Leafs. Their goaltending struggles, however, certainly are. Is the problem in goal? The Leafs relied on the strong play of James Reimer and more specifically Jonathan Bernier to get wins this season, but both have struggled of late. Bernier played 29 games with the Leafs this season before getting pulled for the first time on Saturday in a 7-1 loss against the New York Rangers. He allowed five goals on 32 shots in just under two periods of play. And Bernier struggled again the next time out against the New York Islanders, allowing four goals on 24 shots, three of them that Carlyle said Bernier wanted back. The Leafs lost again, 5-3. The team turned back to Reimer on Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but he allowed six goals on 36 shots and the team lost its third straight game, 6-1. As TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger noted on TSN Radio 1050 on Friday morning, the Leafs, "played 60 minutes like they were killing a 5-on-3." At the same time, Torontos offence hasnt been anywhere near good enough to make up for the defensive shortfall. The Leafs top two scorers, Phil Kessel and James van Riemsdyk, have just one point between them over the last three games. The losing skid could be attributed to many things, but is it as simple as a Winter Classic hangover? The Leafs played most of December under the watchful eyes of television cameras documenting their lives, on and off the ice, for HBOs 24/7 Winter Classic series. When they won the game and shook their opponents hands at centre ice, the camera crews packed up and life was supposed to return to normal. But since then victories have been hard to come by. And now the Leafs find themselves on the outside looking in for a playoff spot with just under half the season remaining and Olympic break four weeks away. The time has come to ask, whats wrong with the Toronto Maple Leafs? As always, its Your! Call. Chris Mullin Jersey . An unconventional night for Texas-El Paso nearly led to the Miners getting a huge upset. Down by 14 with 2:21 left, the Miners went on a frantic closing spurt that fell just short, and UTEP was beaten by No. JaVale McGee Jersey . -- Miami Dolphins defensive co-ordinator Kevin Coyle defended the management style of coach Joe Philbin in the wake of the teams bullying scandal.PITTSBURGH -- At first glance, it didnt look like much, centre Maurkice Pouncey taking his spot in the middle of the offensive line and snapping the ball to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. But for Pouncey, more than eight months removed from tearing both the ACL and MCL in his right knee during the Steelers season opener last September, it was a big step. Pouncey joined his teammates Tuesday for the first time after knee surgery cost him all but eight snaps of the 2013 season. "Yeah, it was my first time doing live action," Pouncey said. "I didnt have any restrictions. It was pretty neat to dry-block some guys and finish on some plays, it was pretty awesome. So, it was great. There were no problems at all." The three-time Pro Bowler was expected to anchor a young offensive line last season. It never happened. Minutes into the opener against Tennessee, Steelers guard David DeCastro dived into the back of Pounceys legs, derailing the direction of an entire season. "Ive never been hit like that," Pouncey said, quickly adding that he hoped to leave all the injury talk in the past. "I think it was more mental than anything, getting my confidence back. Theres only so much you can do to be ready, but then you have to go out and do it." Maybe its why Pouncey was even more fired up than usual as he took the field with his teammates. The sight of Pounceys No. 53 jersey in front of him was certainly a welcome one for Roethlisberger. "It was great," Roethlisberger said. "As a friend and a guy who has worked so hard to get back out here, it was fun to see him back in the pads." Second-year running back LeVeon Bell missed the opening three games last season due to a foot injury during training camp, so the opening OTA practice was his first time running behind a Pouncey block. "Maurkice is one of the more athletic centres in this league," Bell said. "He can run a little better, so were going to try to get back to where we started last year, with more of an outside, zone running game. Omri Casspi Jersey. Its something he can do, and hes also a leader for the front guys. So were looking forward to having him back." Bell and bruising back LeGarrette Blount, acquired as a free agent during the off-season, are counting on Pouncey and an offensive line now under the guidance of former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak. "Weve been building since last year," Pouncey said. "We finished the season pretty well, and a lot of the guys played great. Now, to get a new coach, a Hall of Fame player like that, its awesome. Its going to be great for the group." Roethlisberger believes Pounceys return and the continued improvement of the offensive line could make the Steelers among the most potent offences in the league. Pittsburgh ended 2013 on a 6-2 run while thriving in the no-huddle put together by co-ordinator Todd Haley and Roethlisberger. "Thats a big part of running the no-huddle, because you get those guys working together," Roethlisberger said. "Theyre comfortable. Theyre familiar, and theyve got another off-season of training and continuity and learning from each other. And, so, theyre whats going to drive this team and this offence." HOUSTON -- James Harden was out with a thumb injury, and then Dwight Howard got off to a slow start. Joe Montana Jersey . It sure looked as if it was going to be a long night for the Houston Rockets. Then everything changed in the third quarter. Howard got back on track and a pair of role players stepped up to help Houston rally for a 97-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday. The Rockets trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before scoring 33 in the third to go on top. San Antonio used an 11-3 spurt to pull within two in the final minutes, but Howard and Jeremy Lin helped Houston hold on for the win. "We just kept grinding it out," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "We changed a couple of things defensively and the guys kind of dug in and got stops." Howard had 23 points and 16 rebounds for Houston, which enjoyed a 55-39 advantage on the glass. Terrence Jones scored 21 points and Lin added 18 points and eight assists while starting in Hardens spot. Harden, who leads the team with 23.7 points a game, was out with a bruised left thumb. "I know I missed a lot of shots early," Howard said. "I didnt lose focus. I got a little frustrated because I wanted to make those shots, especially against Tim (Duncan). But I just tried to stick with it and show the team that no matter what Im going to battle." Boris Diaw scored a season-high 22 points for the Spurs, and he also had 11 rebounds. Tony Parker added 17 points and Duncan had 12 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks. Houston was clinging to a 90-88 lead with less than two minutes left when Howard had a dunk and Lin made a jumper. Duncan had a layup on the other end, but Lin sunk a pair of free throws to secure the victory. Houston has won all three meetings with the Southwest Division-leading Spurs to secure the season series for the first time since 1996-97. They have one scheduled game left on April 14 in Houston. San Antonios 90-point performance ended a streak of 15 straight games with at least 100 points and sent the Spurs to consecutive losses for the first time this season. The last time they were held below 100 was a 111-98 loss to Houston on Christmas Day. The Spurs got within six on a hook shot by Diaw early in the fourth quarter. Lin then scored five quick points to extend Houstons lead to 81-70. Houston was up by four points with four minutes left in the third quarter when San Antonio resorted to the "Hack-a-Howard" defence, fouling the centre every time the Rockets got the ball. Howard made 13 of 25 foul shots on the night, leaving him at 52.2 per cent from the line for the season. "I figured they were going to do it," he said. "Im just glad I made most of them." Duncan lamented that the tactic backfired for the Spurs. "Thats what he had to do to get us out of it," Duncan said. "He made free throws and he hurt us with them." The Spurs employed the strategy on eight straight possessions, with Howard making 10 foul shots while they had six points as Houston extended its lead to 70-62. Diaw made a jump shot at the end of the third quarter to cut Houstons lead to 72-64 entering the fourth. The Rockets opened the second half with an 11-2 run, capped by a two-handed dunk by Howard, to take their first lead of the game at 50-48. Lin started the run with a 3-pointer and also had two free throws in the surge. Manu Ginobili made four free throws for San Antonio before Houston scored six straight points to take a 56-52 lead. Ginobili and Chandler Parsons then exchanged rim-rattling dunks in rapid succession. The 36-year-old Ginobili injured himself on his jam and was soon limping and holding his upper left leg. He remained in the game for a bit before walking off the court and into the locker room at the next timeout. The team said he had tightness in his left hamstring. He missed time earlier this month with the same problem. San Antonio led by 10 points in the second quarter before Howard made his first basket of the night after starting the game 0 for 8. The bucket was the first of five straight points for Howard with San Antonios only points in that stretch coming on a layup by Marco Belinelli, helping Houston close to 46-39 at halftime. Houston struggled early without Harden and San Antonio jumped to a 9-0 lead thanks to five points from Diaw. The Spurs pushed the lead to 21-6 with about five minutes left in the first. NOTES: Harden injured his thumb in Houstons last game at Memphis on Saturday. ... Diaw has scored at least 10 points 20 times this season. Daniel Sorensen Jersey . DAVIE, Fla. Austin Seferian-Jenkins Jersey . -- The Miami Dolphins hired a new president to complete a trade of sorts with the San Diego Padres. Former Padres executive Tom Garfinkel was introduced Monday as president and chief executive officer of the Dolphins and their stadium. He succeeds Mike Dee, who coincidentally replaced Garfinkel in July as president and CEO of the Padres. "Coincidental is the right word," Garfinkel said at a news conference. "It just happened to be that was the case." Garfinkel will be responsible for the Dolphins business operations, including all budget responsibility. He will also lead stalled efforts to obtain public money for stadium upgrades. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said Garfinkel was considered for the same job four years ago before Dee was hired. This time, Garfinkel finished first among a field of 75 candidates, including 13 who received interviews. "We were looking for someone who could think strategically, who is exceptionally bright, who is a proven leader," Ross said. "We found that man." Garfinkels primary assignment at the outset? "Putting people in the seats," Ross said. Miamis paid home attendance last year averaged 57,375, the lowest since 1980. Ross had to buy tens of thousands of unsold tickets to keep alive the Dolphins streak of no TV blackouts at home since 2000. Sales are up this season, but Ross said he is again prepared to buy any unsold tickets. "There will no blackouts this year," he said. Another priority for Garfinkel will be to find a way to pay for $350 million in stadium improvements that Ross says are badly needed. In May, the Florida Legislature turned down the Dolphins request for taxpayer help, and Ross said a new proposal will be formulated. "Im prepared to make my offer better," he said, "because I think the community needs it." General manager Jeff Ireland and coach Joe Philbin attended Garfinkels news conference. They will continue to oversee football operations, reporting directly to Ross. "First and foremost the Dolphins need to be about winning football," Garfinkel said. "Everyone in the organization, including me, is here to support that. Fans dont come out to see guys in suits and ties like me. They come out to see players competing to win, and thats where the focus needs to be for everybody in the organization." Garfinkel, 44, had been with the Padres since 2009. Before that, he was executive vice-president and chief operating officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He spent five years with Chip Ganassi Racing Teams as executive vice-president but has no NFL experience. "When I got out of college I thought, Boy, if I could get a job with an NFL team, that would be really special," Garfinkel said. "It took me 22 years." Jamal Adams Jersey . "I just think what it does for everybody in life is real simple," said Babcock early on Friday afternoon. "You dont give in. You just keep on keeping on. Is it going to go your way every time? Nearly four years to the day of the 2010 gold medal match in Vancouver, his team dug in with its best effort of these Olympics, snuffing out the high-powered Americans for another opportunity at gold.KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are hoping a change of scenery will give two disappointing first-round picks an opportunity to realize their potential. The Chiefs traded wide receiver Jon Baldwin to the 49ers on Monday for fellow wideout A.J. Jenkins. Its the second significant trade between the teams this year after the Chiefs sent two draft picks to San Francisco in the off-season to acquire quarterback Alex Smith. "We are pleased to add Jonathan to our team and look forward to incorporating him into our offence," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "Both players have been presented a great opportunity for a new beginning with their respective teams." Baldwin was the 26th overall choice of the Chiefs in 2011, but hes had a tumultuous career right from the start. Baldwin broke his thumb his rookie season when he got into a fight with a teammate, and then struggled to adapt to three head coaches in his first three seasons. Hes also had trouble with dropped passes throughout training camp under new coach Andy Reid, including one when he was wide open in last Friday nights preseason loss to San Francisco. That drop alone apparently was not enough to dissuade the 49ers from making the deal. "Theres no reason that both of these guys cant end up having a great career," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. "Both of these young men have that opportunity, and they definitely have the ability and license to get it done." Jenkins was the 30th overall pick of the 49ers last year, but may have had a more perplexing rookie season than Baldwin. He appeared in three games but did not make a catch, even though he was healthy throughout his teams NFC championship season. "We felt like this trade was beneficial for all parties involved," said Chiefs general manager John Dorsey, who was hired in January to replace the fired Scott Pioli -- the GM who drafted Baldwin. Dorsey and Reid clearly werent enamoured of the big wide receiver after breaking down video of him upon their arrival. One of their major acquisitions in free agency was Donnie Avery, a veteran wide receiver who was expected to compete with Baldwin for the job opposite Dwayne Bowe. Baldwin didnt do much to change the Chiefs opinion of him this off-season, either. Bilal Powell Jersey. Even though theyre desperate to give Smith some downfield options, Baldwin never seized upon the opportunity. He routinely dropped balls in practice, struggled to get open in preseason games and never showed signs of being the kind of playmaker the Chiefs need on the outside. "You dont know what you will get out of him," Chiefs offensive co-ordinator Doug Pederson said before Sundays practice. "If hes down from drops or mental errors or whatever it is, you just work yourself out of it. You continue to press on. We always talk about short-term memory. You have to have it in this business and move on." Otherwise, your team eventually will move on, as Kansas City did Monday. The 49ers are hopeful that Baldwin can flourish without having to deal with the pressure that came with being a primary target in Kansas City. Even though Michael Crabtree is out with a torn Achilles tendon, San Francisco still has veteran Anquan Boldin, Kyle Williams, Mario Manningham when healthy, and tight end Vernon Davis to carry most of the load in its passing game. Still, all that help wasnt enough to help Jenkins break out. The speedy wide receiver had another rough preseason showing against the Chiefs last Friday night, and many were beginning to question whether the former Illinois star would even make the team. He was targeted twice in the game, but failed to catch either pass. Jenkins had one reception in the 49ers preseason opener against Denver, but also lost a fumble. "I have to support the organization and my coach, but I think its a great stepping stone for him because he gets to start over and start new," Davis said Monday. "To me, he still has a lot of potential. His careers not over. Hes just starting somewhere else." Williams said the opportunity to reunite with Smith could help things click for Jenkins, who was often criticized for his work ethic and off-the-field habits in San Francisco. "Honestly, Im happy for him," Williams said. "Its kind of a breath of fresh air. He gets to go over there, get in a new system, get over there with Alex, and Alex will bring him up to speed. I couldnt be happier for him, because I know its going to be a great opportunity for him." Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys China NFL Cheap Jerseys ' ' '
KAMLOOPS, B. Russell Westbrook Team USA Jersey .C. -- Jeff Stoughton has dodged more than a few bullets at the Canadian mens curling championship but he was hit hard Monday night, falling 10-4 to Albertas Kevin Koe. Koes win set up a three-way tie for first at the Tim Hortons Brier, as John Morris of B.C. then beat Eddie MacKenzie of Prince Edward Island 10-4. Morris, Koe and Stoughton are all tied at 4-1 at the top of the standings. Koe grabbed a three in the third end and stole a crippling four in eight when Stoughton was forced into a low-percentage angle raise and his stone sailed past a crowded four-foot. Stoughton shook hands at that point. "We thought we had to give it a shot to score," he said. "It was one of those games, we were just a little bit light or a little heavy on some shots. . . we missed four in a row on the end where they stole three." Koes four in eight came despite a hog-line violation on third Pat Simmons final stone. "I think he said he thought he was coming out a bit light and went to add a little and you know just over the hog line," said Koe. A missed raise by Manitobas third that could have spilled Alberta stones out of the crowded four foot also put Manitoba further behind the eight ball. "They kind of missed the sweep on John Meads last shot and never moved stuff around and were chasing." Stoughton noted the kind of shots he has been forced to make by his team have brought down his percentages but he feels good about his game. "Its a reflection of lead, second and third before you," he said. "The less shots that are made in front of you, the tougher shots you are making. . ." "I felt a lot better today about the ice and the weight and throwing, so for me the confidence level went way up after this game." Newfoundland and Labradors Brad Gushue improved to 2-3 with a 9-7 win over James Grattan of New Brunswick, who won his first game in the earlier draw. Northern Ontario improved to 2-3 by beating still winless Jamie Murphy of Nova Scotia 9-6. Morris was happy about the way his team played. "Jimmy was feeling it, the ice was fantastic . . . That was probably our most solid game of the week so far," said Morris. Jim Cotter throws fourth stones for B.C. and he didnt miss much. P.E.I. shook after the final four in the ninth end. Earlier in the day, Koe won a game he never looks forward to playing. "This one, you dont get a lot of enjoyment out of," the Alberta skip said, after beating younger brother Jamie Koe from the Northwest Territories-Yukon 8-3 in eight ends. "Its never fun beating them because Im always cheering for them every year theyre here," he said. "That being said, we needed a win." "Theyre obviously better," Jamie said of the encounters with his brother. "Were going to have to play our best and hope for some breaks but its a fair battle." Monday also saw Grattan score his first against Greg Balsdon of Ontario 9-6 in the afternoon. Balsdon now sits at 2-2. Grattan gave Stoughton a fight Sunday as well and said it felt good to get a monkey off his back with the win. "When we went to bed last night we felt pretty good about it," he said of the Manitoba game. "The team in the last two games has really shown up." He says getting used to the ice has been an issue. They lost their first game 13-5 and the second 10-1. "We come from an area of the world where the ice is fairly straight all the time . . Coming out here and all of a sudden youre taking the 12-foot to get to the lid and its a different ball game." Its also important to win games at the Brier if you want a reserved spot in the future. A new system is coming into place that will force the bottom finishers to compete for the right to return. Its being brought in to keep the field the same size with the addition of a Team Canada and new rinks from Nunavut and Yukon, instead of just one Territories team. MacKenzie was 3-2 after splitting the day with an afternoon win over Quebecs Jean-Michel Menard. MacKenzie has already matched his combined record at his first two Brier appearances for Prince Edward Island, in 2011 and 2013. "Its definitely better than 0-5 or 0-6 like we were the last couple of times," he said earlier in the day. "Id say being here the last three out of four years helps for sure, playing on arena ice a little more." Saskatchewans Steve Laycock sits just ahead of MacKenzie at 3-1, after beating Nova Scotia 5-3 in the afternoon. He didnt play Monday night. "We kind of figured 3-1 or 4-0 was where wed want to be after this stretch because we do have some of the favourites coming up," he said. Murphy, meanwhile, isnt too thrilled at the Canadian Curling Association for the changes coming in 2015 that could see Nova Scotia have to compete for the right to play in the Brier. "Were firm believers that messing with traditions such as the Brier doesnt seem like a smart decision," he said of the new system, popularly known as relegation, although it seems anything but popular. "Were obviously biased when we say that because were probably going to be in the relegation pool." Anthony Davis Team USA Jersey . PHOENIX -- Nine days past his 26th birthday, Craig Kimbrel is the Atlanta Braves career leader in saves. A.J. Bouye Jersey . That number figures to get a lot bigger before hes through. Kimbrel got the final four outs in the Braves 5-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, earning his 16th save of the season (in 18 tries) and 155th of his career. Thats one more than John Smoltz. Those 155 saves have come in 172 opportunities. "Ive been a part of a lot of good teams and had a lot of opportunities," Kimbrel said. "Having the chance my first full season to be a closer, that doesnt happen very often and thats why were sitting here talking today, because I had that opportunity a lot of guys dont have. "I feel blessed and grateful for it." Kimbrel had one save in 2010, 46 in 2011, 42 in 2012 and 50 in 2013. "Ive played with him for four years and some change and hes already the franchise leader in saves," teammate Jason Heyward said. "Thats pretty cool." Hayward drove in three runs, two with a home run, and Andrelton Simmons doubled in a run for the Braves. Julio Teheran (6-3) gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings to win his fourth straight decision. Didi Gregorius became the first Diamondback to hit leadoff home runs in consecutive starts. He did it Wednesday in Colorado, sat out Thursdays game, then did it again Friday. Arizonas Brandon McCarthy (1-8) allowed three runs and nine hits in 6 1-3 innings, striking out nine and walking one. McCarthy singled in the tying run in the fifth, his first career RBI. Kimbrel entered the game with two outs and a runner at first in the eighth inning and got his former Atlanta teammate Martin Prado looking to end the inning. With a three-run lead in the ninth, Kimbrel got Aaron Hill and David Peralta to fly out, then Tuffy Gosewich popped out to end it. It was just his third career four-out save. "He hadnt pitched since last Saturday," manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "so we were able to do that." The Braves broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh when, with one out, Heyward drew the only walk McCarthy allowed. Simmons lashed a double to the corner in left, scoring Heyward from first. The Atlanta leadoff hitter used his long arms to connect with a ball that was high and outside and drove it to the opposite field. "It was a pitch I dont expect to get hit at all," McCarthy said. "It was right where I wanted it. It was a hard four-seamer up and away and I wanted to use it to establish something else. He took a good swing at it and hit a home run. I was pretty surprised." They added another run in the ninth on Heywards RBI single. Right fielder Gerardo Parra robbed Simmons of an extra-base hit and probably saved a run with a diving grab in the ninth. Atlanta took the lead in the fifth when Jordan Schafer doubled over third base to start the inning. He scored on Heywards home run to left that made it 2-1. Gregorius, called up from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, opened the game with a shot just over the fence in right. Teheran didnt allow another hit until Peralta, another recent arrival from the minors, led off the fifth with a ground-rule double. Teheran retired the next two batters, but McCarthy -- 2 for 23 for the season to that point -- slapped a single between shortstop and third to bring Peralta home and tie it 2-2. Ex-Diamondback Justin Upton, greeted with a mix of boos and cheers, struck out three times against McCarthy, then flied out to the fence in right and drove in a run with a bloop single in the ninth. Its that simple. Brady threw for 317 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as the New England Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers, 23-14, on Sunday night. New Englands signal-caller improved to 6-0 all-time against Rivers Chargers. Julian Edelman totaled 141 yards on eight catches with a touchdown that essentially sealed the game in the fourth quarter, and Rob Gronkowski also caught a touchdown pass for the Patriots (10-3). Rivers couldnt generate much offense for his team throughout the night, throwing for 189 yards with a touchdown and interception. San Diego (8-5) had its three-game winning streak snapped and will host AFC West-leading Denver in a pivotal division matchup next Sunday. The first points of the second half came on Stephen Gostkowskis 38-yard field goal with 10:34 left in the fourth to push the Patriots ahead, 16-14. Following a three-and-out by the Chargers, Edelman broke a tackle and scampered 69 yards into the end zone to extend the cushion to 23-14. The Chargers didnt have an answer, however, and New England chipped off over four minutes of clock, leaving little time for its opponent. Rivers pass to Antonio Gates on 4th-and-5 was short of the marker and Brady took a knee to run out the remaining time. Really proud of our football team today for what we did, said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. Defensively, I cant say enough about that effort. New England forced a punt on the opening possession of the game, then chewed up nearly eight minutes of clock on a lengthy drive that resulted in a 22-yard field goal from Gostkowski. The Chargers blocked the first attempt and took it 80 yards for a touchdown, but an offside penalty moved the ball up for Gostkowski to boot through the uprights to open the scoring. San Diego countered with an 11-play, 80-yard touchdown march. LaDarius Green picked up 11 yards on 3rd-and-9 from midfield to keep the drive alive and five plays later, Rivers lofted a pass up to the corner of the end zone where Malcolm Floyd made a diving catch for a 15-yard touchdown. Marqise Lee Jersey. Brandon LaFell made a catch just past midfield on the ensuing Patriots possession, but Jahleel Addae jarred the ball loose and Darrell Stuckey raced into the end zone for a 53-yard return touchdown that made it 14-3 with 11:06 to play in the second. New England manufactured another long drive deep into San Diego territory that ended with Gostkowski connecting with a 22-yard field goal. Brandon Bolden blocked Mike Scifres punt on San Diegos next touch and the Patriots started at the San Diego 25. Brady rushed for four yards on 3rd- and-3, then hooked up with Gronkowski on a back-shoulder throw for a 14-yard score and cut the deficit to 14-13. Manti Teo nearly intercepted Brady in the end zone earlier in the game, but made amends for it by picking off an offering late in the first half for his first career interception as the Patriots looked to add on points. The Chargers did a nice job keeping Brady off the field early in the third, forcing three straight three-and-outs. Devin McCourty intercepted Rivers off a bobbled pass from Green and returned it for a touchdown, but the play was negated as Brandon Browner was flagged for unnecessary roughness on a hard hit to Green. Akeem Ayers did, however, pick Rivers off later in the drive to keep it a one- point game. Brady and company couldnt do anything, though, as San Diegos defense forced another punt after just three plays. Game Notes Scifres left the game with a shoulder injury after Bolden blocked his punt. Kicker Nick Novak filled in for Scifres for the rest of the contest. Novak averaged 40 yards per punt in his first action at the position since high school ... Green left the game with a concussion following the hit by Browner ... New England improved to 21-14-2 all-time against San Diego ... Gronkowski became the first tight end in NFL history to score 10 or more receiving TDs in 4 seasons ... Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points, Tim Hardaway Jr. had 20, and the Knicks beat the Milwaukee Bucks 115-94 on Saturday, giving them a season-high six straight victories as they prepare to welcome Jackson back to the franchise. "Weve got to really focus in on whats the task at hand, and thats still trying to make this push and not even looking forward to next season at this point," Anthony said. Amare Stoudemire and J.R. Smith each scored 15 for the Knicks, who easily ended their daytime woes by pounding the team with the NBAs worst record. New York began the day 3 1/2 games behind Atlanta for the final post-season spot in the Eastern Conference. But the playoff push has taken a backseat to the news that Jackson was coming in to run the Knicks front office -- except in the locker room. "I think our focus is solely on what we have to accomplish to make the playoffs, to be honest," centre Tyson Chandler said. "I know its a lot going on, but as an athlete, you dont pay too much attention to it, because its out of your control, anyway." The Knicks will introduce the 11-time champion as a coach at a press conference Tuesday morning. Jackson will find a team playing its best basketball of a disappointing season. "Better late than never," Stoudemire said. The Knicks shot 55 per cent, led by as much as 25 points and have won six in a row by double digits for the first time since November 1969, according to information provided to the Knicks by Elias. "The easiest thing to do is to start talking about next year at this point in time right now, but the guys on the team seem pretty confident about just staying focused right now, winning basketball games and try to make this push for the playoffs," Anthony said. Nate Wolters scored 15 for the Bucks, who lost their third straight. Brandon Knight and Ramon Sessions each added 14. The Knicks had lost all seven games that began before 3:30 p.m., six by double digits. Things were so bad earlier this season that coach Mike Woodson even had the players stay overnight in a hotel the night before a home game. John Miller Jersey. But with unusually high energy in the arena for a noon tip, whether because of the winning streak or the Jackson news, the Knicks were sharp from the start. New York made 55 per cent of its shots in a 30-point first quarter, then scored 30 more in the second. The Knicks even got a banked-in 3-pointer from the corner by Iman Shumpert, shortly after Milwaukees Ersan Ilyasova missed a wide-open layup. "I thought we had no real defensive presence," Bucks coach Larry Drew said. The Knicks led 88-66 after three. They have feasted on a weak portion of their schedule to hang around in the playoff race, though things turn tougher with a visit from Indiana on Wednesday. Woodson continues to stress that the Knicks can still make something of this season, though the focus on Jackson has turned much of the attention to the teams future. "Its basketball. Teams, they try to reshape, they go through changes and this is no different," Woodson said before the game. "Youre bringing a great basketball mind into your organization and eventually itll be reshaped. So how and who and when, only time will tell." Jackson played for a pair of title-winning teams in New York, including the 1973 squad whose 40th anniversary the Knicks celebrated last season. The drought seems certain to extend at least another year, even if the Knicks can win enough to get into the post-season. They were helped Saturday with the return of starters Chandler, who missed two games for family reasons, and Stoudemire, who sat out the last one to rest. Shumpert finished with 14 points. "We really feel like were going to get that spot," Chandler said. "If we take care of our business, we do what were supposed to do, we feel like weve got a great shot." The surging Montreal Canadiens attempt to earn a rare victory in Washington when they visit the Capitals at Verizon Center. Thomas Davis Jersey . You can watch the game on TSN at 7pm et/4pm pt and listen to the game on TSN Radio 690 in Montreal. After starting the month of November on an 0-3-1 slide, the Canadiens have recorded wins in three of their last five outings (3-1-1). However, Montreal has also lost four of six and seven of its past 10 games in Washington. With the Canadiens playing on back-to-back days, Peter Budaj will get the start tonight while Carey Price is scheduled to play Saturday against Pittsburgh. Budaj is 0-2-1 with a 2.95 goals against average in four career outings against the Capitals. Montreal turned in its best offensive performance of the season in its most recent trip to the ice, setting a season-high in goals with Tuesdays 6-2 home victory over Minnesota. Max Pacioretty scored the first three goals of the game to notch his second career hat trick and lead the way in the rout of the Wild. Pacioretty had just two goals in 12 games this season before more than doubling his total with Tuesdays outburst. The American winger fired a career-high 10 shots on goal against the Wild. "Ive missed a lot of good opportunities lately and it started getting in my head that I couldnt score," Pacioretty told his teams official website after the game. Michael Bournival, Daniel Briere and Alex Galchenyuk also lit the lamp for the Canadiens, while Carey Price made 25 saves for the win. Montreal, which is playing three of its next four games on the road, is just 1-3-0 as the visiting team in November. The Capitals will try bounce back after having their momentum halted the last time out. The Capitals had won three in a row and scored four times in each game during that hot streak before getting dealt a 4-0 home loss by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. It marked just the second time this season Washington had been blanked and the first time since the New York Rangers recorded a 2-0 win in D.C. on Oct. 16. Washington also was outshot by a wide 40-18 margin in Wednesdays loss, which ended a six-game home winning streak for the Caps and dropped them to 8-4-0 at the Verizon Center this season. The club hadnt lost on home ice since the 2-0 setback versus the Rangers last month. While Marc-Andre Fleury needed only to make 18 stops to record the shutout for Pittsburgh, Capitals netminder Braden Holtby turned aside 36-of-40 shots in a losing effort. The Pens fired 32 shots at Holtby through the first two periods alone and held a 3-0 edge after 40 minutes of action. "Theres lots of ways to lose games, and thats not really one way you want to do it," Washington head coach Adam Oates said after the disappointing effort. Washington could get a boost from the return of defenseman Mike Green on Friday. The offensive-minded blueliner sat out the past three games with a lower-body injury, but expects to play tonight. Green has 11 points -- all assists -- in 19 games this season. The Caps hope Green can help them get back in the win column tonight in the finale of a three-game homestand. Washington has had tons of success against the Canadiens in recent years, winning two straight and eight of the past nine overall meetings between the clubs. Derek Anderson Jersey . Just ask Arsenal fans. However, Arsene Wenger has repeatedly told anyone willing to listen that finishing in that spot is more important than winning a cup competition. Michael Palardy Jersey . BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Marcus Foligno looked up at the video board and was moved as the Buffalo Sabres said farewell to two of their most popular players. Jhonas Enroth made 36 saves as the Sabres beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2 on Friday night, a few hours after they traded goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott. "Im not going to lie. It was pretty emotional watching the tribute," Foligno said. "That was pretty nice what they did during the game, and those are two players that were hugely respected here in the city and respected Buffalo as well." Miller was set to start his 541st career game for the Sabres, but was pulled from the lineup just over an hour before the puck was dropped. The deal made Ted Nolan push Enroth into the starting lineup. "I was sitting in the back, joking around with the trainers about all these trade rumours and I told them hopefully it doesnt happen on game day, especially against the Sharks," Enroth quipped. "Three minutes after, Coach Nolan came up to me and told me I was starting, so I kind of jinxed myself there. "After that, I was a bit more nervous than usual but I told myself I had nothing to lose." Enroth played well and the Sabres got goals from Cody Hodgson, Brian Flynn, Matt Moulson and Tyler Myers. It was Enroths second consecutive win after he snapped a 0-10-4 slump with a 5-4 overtime win against Boston on Wednesday, which was his first home win since April. With the trade of Miller, Buffalo was forced to reach into their new hockey academy staff for a backup goaltender. HarborCenter director of technology Ryan Vinz was Buffalos No. 2 goaltender after being a video co-ordinator at Clarkson University. James Sheppard and Patrick Marleau scored for San Jose. With the trade, Buffalo general manager Tim Murray struck his first major deal since being hired in January, acquiring goalie Jaroslav Halak, forward Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, a 2015 first-round pick and a conditional 2016 third-round pick. Murray later explained that the pick in 2016 could turn into a first-round pick in this years draft if the Blues reach the Western Conference finals or Miller re-signs with St. Louis before the draft. The win gave Buffalo three straight wins for the first time since last April, and Myers said the milestone carries significance. "It feels good,&" he said. Shaq Thompson Jersey. "We knew what position we were in going into this game, and we really wanted it. Hearing the news before the game we wanted it that much more." The Sabres opened the scoring on a power-play goal 10:59 into the first period, as Antti Niemi couldnt hold on to Hodgsons wrist shot. It was Hodgsons 15th goal and his first since Jan. 28. Enroth made a glove save of Matt Irwins slap shot through traffic with under seven minutes to play to keep Buffalo ahead. He made another strong glove save 7:22 into the second period when Marleau was left uncovered in the slot. "It was kind of late notice," Enroth said of getting the word he was starting, "but I just told myself to relax, go out there and compete." Moments after Enroth stopped Marleau, Myers beat Niemi off a rush up the right side, but his shot clanked off the cross bar. After another pair of saves, Enroth was beaten when Sheppard forced a puck between the goaltenders legs after a shot rebounded off the end boards. The Sharks finished the second period with a 31-13 advantage in shots on goal. "We knew theyd be ready," Sharks centre Joe Pavelski said. "We had our chances to score early and we didnt, fell behind, climbed back and just didnt turn the corner like we needed to." Buffalo restored its lead 4:33 into the third when Zemgus Girgensons won a faceoff back to Flynn, whose wrist shot beat Niemi. The Sabres doubled their advantage four minutes later when Myers jumped into the play from the right point to feed Moulson in the slot, who scored over Niemis shoulder. Marleau brought the Sharks within one with a one-timer with 1:15 left in regulation. Joe Thornton picked up his 50th assist of the season on the goal. "They played hard," Thornton said of the Sabres. "Obviously, Im sure a lot of feelings over there with two teammates. its a tough business, but they played well tonight." Myers added an empty-net goal with 21 seconds left to give him a goal and two assists on the night. "Tyler Myers is really starting to come into his own," Nolan said. The veteran right-hander pitched well on two extra days of rest, Matt Kemp homered and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 Friday night. Haren (12-10) allowed one run and four hits in six innings against his former team. He struck out six and walked one, improving to 4-1 with a 2.04 ERA since Aug. 6. Haren stumbled through five consecutive losses from July 5 to Aug. 1. "Absolutely I lost my confidence," he said. Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis said the rest of the team couldnt tell. "He didnt show it to us, which is the sign of a great teammate," Ellis said. "Im really happy for him that he turned it around." Haren even singled to centre in the second when the bunt sign was removed after two strikes. His 12th win marked the first time since 1985 that the Dodgers have had four pitchers with 12 or more in a season. "Ive got four starts left here and I need to make them as good as I can for the team," said Haren, who signed a one-year deal last fall. "Weve got to win these." Kenley Jansen worked a perfect ninth, becoming the fourth Dodgers reliever to save 40 games in a season and the first since Eric Gagne in 2004. Jansen blew his fifth chance of the year Wednesday while attempting a four-out save in the teams 14-inning loss to Washington. He tossed the landmark ball into the crowd. "I should have kept that ball, but that kid will enjoy that ball," he said. After losing four of their previous six, the Dodgers stayed two games ahead of second-place San Francisco in the NL West. Seventeen of Los Angeles final 21 games are against division opponents. "Our schedule aint as easy as it looks," Kemp said. "We need everybody to step their game up here in September. These next couple of weeks are going to be very important for us." Vidal Nuno (0-5) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings, struck out five and walked two. "The first three innings were a little difficult. I was missing my spots," Nuno said. "I just found it in the third, after the home run, and just settled down a little bit and just threw strikes and not be in the middle of the plate." The Dodgers got just enough offence to eke out the win. Yasiel Puigs slump continued after an 0-for-3 effort, including a strikeout and a walk. He is 4 for 40 with one extra-base hit in his last 15 games. Kemp led off the third with his 18th homer, sending an 0-1 pitch into the Arizona bullpen in right field. The Dodgers led 1-0 on Hanley Ramirezs RBI single with two outs in the second that scored A.J. Ellis, who walked. Arizona closed to 2-1 in the fourth on Didi Gregorius sacrifice fly. "We tried to stay as selective as we could depending on how Dan ended up attacking us. But he was throwing strikes," Diamondbacks first baseman Mark Trumbo said. "We had to be aggressive." The Diamondbacks have allowed three runs or fewer in nine straight games, tying the clubs longest streak since Sept. 25, 2005, to April 5, 2006. KEMPS HOMER After hitting his 175th homer, Kemp is two behind Mike Piazza for fourth in Dodgers history. Kemp extended his season high-tying hitting streak to 11 games since Aug. 22, during which hes batting .364 with five doubles, three homers and 11 RBIs. TRAINERS ROOM Diamondbacks: Relief pitcher Brad Ziegler will have season-ending surgery on his left knee Tuesday to repair frayed cartilage under the kneecap. Dodgers: LHP Paco Rodriguez, on the disabled list since Aug. 4 with a shoulder strain, had a setback. He was sore on Thursday, a day after his bullpen session, so a simulated game set for Friday was scrubbed. Manager Don Mattingly said he still thinks theres time for Rodriguez to return this season. UP NEXT Diamondbacks: Chase Anderson (8-6, 3.75 ERA) starts and is one-third of an inning shy of tying his career best of 137 2-3 innings pitched in 2012.
