Quarterback Travis Lulay starts his first game of the season tonight when the B. Kosuke Fukudome Cubs Jersey .C. Lions visit the Ottawa Redblacks, almost a full year after injuring his throwing shoulder last September. Watch the game live on TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, TSN5 and on TSN GO tonight at 7pm et/4pm pt. You can also listen to the game on TEAM 1040 in Vancouver and TSN Radio 1200 in Ottawa. It was hoped Lulay would be healthy in time for training camp after undergoing off-season surgery, but he instead takes charge nine games into a campaign that has seen the Lions wobble to 5-4 record in the CFLs ultra-competitive West Division. "Im excited. This is why you play the game - to have an opportunity to play," Lulay said this week. "I dont take a minute of it for granted. If I learned anything during (the last year), it was that I feel fortunate to be able to do what I do. I just love being out here with the guys." Lulay said going on the six-game injured list at the start of the regular season gave him a chance to refocus, and it was towards the end of that period when he finally started to feel like he was getting back to normal. "I knew it was a process ... I didnt know exactly when that process would come to an end," he said. "I do feel confident in my ability to play well. "There was so much unknown going into (training) camp, knowing there was a chance that I may be ready early (and) knowing there was a chance it might take a while into the season." Lulay has dressed the last three games as a backup -- seeing action late in the last two -- and with the team coming off a bye week, head coach Mike Benevides felt the time was right for the 30-year-old to take over from Kevin Glenn. "Hes as good as Ive seen him in a long, long time ... a long, long time," Benevides said of Lulay. "Hes not going to be as smooth as he wants to be a month from now, but he looks as good as Ive seen in a long time." Lulays return comes at a critical juncture for B.C., which has been consistently inconsistent so far in 2014. The Lions have road victories over the Calgary Stampeders (8-1) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-2), but are an uncharacteristic 2-3 at home. Giving the Lions a much-needed boost in a variety of areas is Stefan Logan, who is leading the league with 1,264 combined yards, the only player in the CFL with more than 1,000 yards in that department. Defensively, the Lions are still paced by Solomon Elimimian who, despite leaving early a couple weeks ago, still paces the league in tackles with 74, 26 more than Ottawas Jasper Simmons who is second on the list. Elimimian practiced on Wednesday and will start tonight. The Redblacks, all alone in last place in the dismal East Division where not one of the four inhabitants has even a .500 record, have just one win in nine tries to this point and that came by only a single point against visiting Toronto back on July 18 (18-17). Since then it has been a downhill run for Ottawa, losing most recently to a woeful Montreal group on the road in Week 10, 20-10. In that game, the Redblacks actually scored the first points of the contest, a 30-yard field goal by Brett Maher, but from there the team was held scoreless until the final frame when Henry Burris hooked up with Wallace Miles on a 28- yard TD pass play. Burris, who recently moved up the CFLs all-time passing list, finished the contest 21-of-34 for 245 yards, shaking off three sacks along the way. The signal caller was one of two players credited with rushing attempts for the Redblacks as he posted eight runs for 29 yards, two less than Chevon Walker who carried the ball seven times. Miles managed to pull down seven passes for a 101 yards, but even that effort was not enough to offset a staggering 16 penalties for a loss of 135 yards in the outing. The Redblacks continue to bring up the rear in terms of scoring this season with only 15.1 ppg, the team generating just 294.6 ypg which is second-lowest in the CFL after 10 weeks of action. On the defensive side of the ball, there is no team as lenient as Ottawa, with the squad giving up a hefty 412.8 ypg, close to 80 ypg more than the closest competitor (Montreal). As far as an all-time series is concerned, British Columbia is on top by a count of 39-18-2, taking into consideration only regular-season meetings dating back to 1961. The most recent matchup between the Lions and a team representing the city of Ottawa was back on Sept. 8, 2005 when BC hammered the opposition, 61-27, on the road. The Lions, who are set to host Ottawa on Oct. 11, have won nine consecutive meetings and 14 of the last 15 overall. Mark Grace Jersey .C. -- Eric Staal kept his focus after his apparent breakaway goal was waived off early in the third period. Greg Maddux Jersey . - Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II says the NFL has told the team it will not be docked a pick in this years draft for coach Mike Tomlins foray onto the field against Baltimore last November.Antonio Di Natale scored a hat trick to help Udinese draw 3-3 against Sampdoria in its last Serie A match on Saturday, then announced he was going back on his decision to retire this year. The 36-year-old said a few months ago he would hang up his boots at the end of the season, but has since changed his mind. "Its a pity the season is ending now, as I am in good physical shape and enjoying myself," Di Natale said. "Lets hope I continue like this. "At the start of the season, the whole team struggled to do what wed been able to in three years together. But you weigh things up at the end, and I still got 17 goals in the league." Stefano Okaka headed Sampdoria into an early lead, but Di Natale levelled with a magnificent free kick into the top near corner, and the former Italy striker side-footed in Roberto Pereyras cross in the 33rd after good work by his teammate. Willson Contreras Jersey. The match changed in two second-half minutes. First Eder beat the offside trap to roll Okakas through ball past Udinese goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic, before Roberto Soriano gave Samp the lead from a tight angle. Di Natale completed his hat trick in bizarre fashion two minutes from time after Sampdoria substitute Pawel Wszolek sent a backpass from the halfway line straight to the Udinese forward for his 193rd Serie A goal. ARLINGTON, Texas -- The sight of the Texas Rangers pitching staff does wonders for Kyle Seager. Bo Jackson Raiders Jersey . The Seattle third baseman had three hits, including a two-run single that sparked a four-run third inning as the Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 6-2 on Tuesday night. A career .256 hitter in four seasons, Seager is hitting .329 against the Rangers. "Ive always seen the ball pretty well here," Seager said. "Its a good park to hit in." Robinson Cano, Dustin Ackley and recent call-up Nick Franklin added two hits each as the Mariners, last in the American League in hitting, had every member of the batting order reach base during the first four innings, That backed the pitching of right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (3-0), who allowed both runs and six hits through eight innings. Iwakuma had a streak of 17 consecutive scoreless innings end with a home run by Adrian Beltre leading off the second inning that made it 1-0. Seattle has won two consecutive games for the first time since early May. "Hes phenomenal," Seager said of Iwakuma. "Hes got great tempo and seduces ground balls." Iwakuma began the year on the disabled list with a torn tendon in his right middle finger and made his first start on May 3. He threw a season-high 99 pitches on Tuesday night. "Im not obsessed with going nine innings," Iwakuma said through a translator. "I want to go out there and do my part, and I feel like I did my part today." Rangers manager Ron Washingtons take on the Seattle starter was: "Same Iwakuma. Sinking the ball. Cutting the ball. Hitting his spots. Changing speeds. Working fast. Having early contact." Mariners catcher Mike Zunino told manager Lloyd McClendon that he thought Iwakuma was finished after throwing 90 pitches in seven innings. McClendon decided to see what more his starter had, and Iwakuma retired Texas in order in the eighth on nine pitches. "Were hoping to get him built up," McClendon said. "He ran out of gas again." The loss in the opener of a two-game set means the Rangers have either lost or split six consecutive series. Texas Colby Lewis (3-3) started on seven days rest and allowed five runs on nine hits through six innings, the longest of his seven starts this season. Lewis debuted in the starting rotation in mid-April after missing the previous 21 months following elbow and hip surgeries. Franklin was called up from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Corey Hart, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his left hamstring on Sunday. Franklin was leading the Pacific Coast League in hitting. A Texas lineup that has yet to feature second baseman Jurickson Profar or catcher Geovany Soto this season because of injury played Tuesday without first baseman Prince Fielder and centerfielder Leonys Martin. The Rangers hoped Fielder would return after sitting out two games because of neck stiffness that was recently attributed to a herniated disk. But after an early batting practice session, Fielder said he wasnt ready to play. Martin was removed from the original lineup because of stiff neck. Cano has reached base in 27 consecutive games, a career high for the five-time All-Star who signed with the Mariners as a free agent following nine seasons with the New York Yankees. NOTES: The Rangers replaced Robbie Ross in the starting rotation with Scott Baker, who will pitch Friday at Detroit. Ross, a first-year starter, was 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA. McClendon said LHP James Paxton (latissimus dorsi) and RHP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) both threw well during game-simulated sessions on Tuesday afternoon. Texas optioned C J.P. Arencibia to Triple-A Round Rock, purchased C Chris Gimenez from Round Rock and moved LHP Martin Perez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day list. Bo Jackson Womens Jersey . -- Jake Paterson made 39 saves as the Saginaw Spirit halted the Guelph Storms seven-game win streak with a 6-3 victory on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action. Foster Moreau Youth Jersey .The Los Angeles Lakers star passed Michael Jordan for third on the NBAs career scoring list Sunday night in a 100-94 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Calgary Hitmen announced on Thursday that forward Jake Virtanen underwent successful shoulder surgery and is expected to be out of action for four to six months.  Virtanen, who is projected to go in the first round of neext months NHL draft, will be at the leagues scouting combine next week in Toronto, but will not participate in the fitness portion. Clelin Ferrell Raiders Jersey. MILAN, Italy -- Fernando Llorente scored a stoppage-time winner to help Juventus snatch a 1-0 win over Udinese and stretch its lead at the top of the Italian league to three points after Roma drew 1-1 at Atalanta. Ernie Stautner Youth Jersey . Roma also needed a late goal as Kevin Strootman scored in the final minute to preserve the teams unbeaten record. Mario Balotellis free kick helped AC Milan beat Catania 3-1 for its first win in six league matches, while a last-minute equalizer saw Sampdoria earn a 1-1 draw at Inter Milan, in front of new Nerazzurri President Erick Thohir. Elsewhere, Cagliari came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Sassuolo and Chievo Verona beat Livorno 3-0. Juventus dominated possession, but it was Udinese which had the best opportunities and home goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon pulled off a three stunning saves to deny Antonio di Natale twice and Andrea Lazzari once. Defender Stephan Lichtsteiner returned after almost two months out with an injury and he was instrumental in the Juventus goal flicking on a cross for Llorente to head past the motionless Zeljko Brkic. Llorente had almost scored moments earlier but saw his header cleared off the line by Udinese defender Allan. Kickoff had been brought forward to allow more than 12,000 children to fill the stands behind each goal, replacing the ultras which had been banned for insulting territorial chants against Napoli. It was Juves sixth successive league victory without conceding a goal. "We have to continue like this," Juventus coach Antonio Conte said. "We have 12 wins, a draw and a defeat. Thats very important but we mustnt sit back on our successes. "We were good today and lucky. We played well and showed that we are doing well physically, despite playing three games in a week. Buffon was good today, but Brkick was exceptional." Key playmaker Andrea Pirlo limped off after 13 minutes with a knee injury. Earlier, Roma was held to its fourth successive draw. Atalanta, which had hit the post in the first half, took the lead seven minutes after halftime when Davide Brivio sent a free kick under the wall and into the bottom right corner, although Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was partly at fault as he misjudged the ball. United States forward Michael Bradley thought he had levelled in the 76th but his header was harshly ruled out for offside. Atalanta goalkeeper Andrea Consigli made several good saves, but could do nothing when Adem Ljajic crossed for Kevin Strootman to tap in from six yards. There was also a last-gasp leveler at San Siro, where Thohir was watching his first match since being elected president last month. Inter captain Javier Zanetti made his first start since snapping his Achilles tendon in April. Inter took the lead in the 18th when Ricardo Alvarez worked his way through on the left of the area before rolling across for Fredy Guarin to lash in under the bar. Guarin almost doubled his tally seven minutes after the interval but his effort crashed off the post. Shortly afterwards Sampdoria striker Nicola Pozzis effort was ruled out for offside. Substitute Renan levelled in the final minute, with a powerful shot from distance, just three minutes after coming off the bench. "This was our worst performance of the season," Inter coach Walter Mazzarri said. "We went too deep after going 1-0 up and we didnt even start well. Too many were under par and Sampdoria deserved the draw. "I didnt like this Inter. We should never let our guard down." In the lunchtime kickoff, Milan dominated possession but it was Catania that took the lead in the 13th against the run of play as poor defending eventually saw Lucas Castros effort deflected over stand-in goalkeeper Gabriel. The visitors levelled six minutes later when Riccardo Montolivo volleyed Urby Emanuelsons cross into the back of the net. Balotelli had gone six matches in all competitions without a goal before Tuesdays 3-0 win at Celtic, but he was involved in most Milan moves and fired his side in front shortly after the hour mark with a low free kick. Moments later Catania were down to 10 men when Panagiotis Tachtsidis was harshly shown a straight red for a challenge on Balotelli. Kaka sealed the match nine minutes from time, bursting into the box and firing into the roof of the net from a tight angle to score for the third successive match. It was his 99th Milan goal. Milan moved provisionally level with eighth-placed Lazio. Catania remains at the bottom of the league. There was another positive for Milan as Stephan El Shaarawy made his return from injury, coming on in the 74th for his first appearance in three months. Balotelli was replaced seven minutes from time after getting into a heated argument with Catania defender Nicolas Spolli, whom he accused of racism. "I didnt hear anything, so I cant judge," Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said. "I took Mario off only because I saw he was a bit tired and had taken some knocks. There are so many skirmishes on the pitch, in any match, whats important is to stay calm." James Conner Womens Jersey . -- The Orlando Magic have made no secret that the future of their franchise will depend on how well they can develop their young players. Jack Lambert Womens Jersey . According to the Red Wings Twitter feed, Zetterberg plans to practice with the team on Thursday and is aiming for a second round comeback. It may have been Chelsea who recently featured in an episode of The Simpsons, but its Manchester United who have morphed into a mere caricature of themselves.  Rooneys latest piece of football genius lost in the furore which now stalks David Moyes, and the man who gave the Manchester United striker his start as a 16-year old at Goodison Park back in 2002.  Verbally abused as he sat in the dugout during the later stages of yet another disjointed performance in the midweek Manchester Derby - a banner which proclaimed the Ferguson rubber stamped appointment has now become a focal point for growing supporter fury with the 50-year old Scotsman. The Chosen One has become the Chastised One. The Old Trafford storm clouds are certainly gathering and how Moyes will hope that infamous Manchester rain will play its part just ahead of the kick off against Aston Villa Saturday when most of the 75,000 in attendance will be gazing skyward at a plane which will trail a, "Wrong One: Moyes Out" banner. Weve moved on then from a time where fans would meet down the pub pre-match and march in protest to the ground. This fly by is not the work of a few mavericks merely looking for cheap publicity at Moyes expense, but is the response to a season lost from the all influential Red Issue Fanzine.   Raising the $1,500 cost in less time it took for Toure to bang in a third Manchester City goal, earlier Friday Red Issue explained their motivation for organizing the fly by protest in a statement to the media. "The decision to fly a plane over Old Trafford bearing the slogan Wrong One: Moyes Out is one born out of acute frustration. It is frustration at the poor results, lack of fight on the pitch and the unavoidable signs that David Moyes isnt up to the highest standards required to manage Manchester United Football Club." "A significant proportion of Manchester United fans have had enough and unequivocally want David Moyes sacked. Further frustration has been created from the inaccurate perception that all Manchester United fans are behind David Moyes." "The plane and banner which will fly over the stadium this Saturday attempts to directly counter this very unpopular [Chosen One] banner with the words Wrong One and the Moyes Out wording is our statement of what a significant group of Manchester United fans want to happen next at our club." Choice words. To his credit at Fridays pre-match press conference, Moyes defended the supporters right to protest and reiterated his appreciations to all the supporters who continue to back him. Intriguingly that number includes the supporter who rose to Old Trafford infamy when back in 1989 he unfurled a banner which demanded Fergsuon depart a club he had been in charge of for three years but was yet to deliver any silverware. We all know now how that ended. Such though has been the dramatic fall from grace under Moyes, even the leagues CEO Richard Scudamore felt compelled to discuss the matter when stating a belief Manchester Uniteds current predicament was bad for business. No club in English football is more passionately followed across the globe than the champions. Mel Blount Steelers Jersey. The season long funk has also wreaked havoc with Rio Ferdinands personal and social life.  The six-time BPL winner has disclosed a preference currently for not taking his kids to school or go out for an evening. This, as ways to avoid supporters and the embarrassment of a season that even with seven matches remaining will return the lowest point total for Manchester United in the Premier League era. Astonishingly, Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer immune from abuse; this occurring as he was sat up in his directors box perch Wednesday evening. Not only did Ferguson leave Moyes soiled goods with many players clearly past their sell by date, there is also a growing sense  Ferguson did most of the bidding for the much despised Glazer family. Since they took control in 2005, the owners are reported to have taken $1 biliion out of the club. This income has been taken out to service interest payments and meet other financial demands. Money supporters say should have been reinvested in the squad.     To arrest the decline it will take more than the type of panic buying that saw Manchester United pay well over the market odds for Fellaini in the summer and Mata in January. Let there be no doubt these are unprecedented times at Old Trafford. One of the more popular London tabloids spoke Thursday of a coup led by the class of 92 and bankrolled by oil money. Even the New York Stock Exchange got in on the action when the clubs share price rose five per cent.                                                                                                                                                                                                                   For a club which has already lost six BPL matches at home, Moyes will need a significant response from his players Saturday. (SportsNetwork. Robert Newhouse Cowboys Jersey .com) - Ryan Kesler should already be motivated on Thursday night given that his Anaheim Ducks have lost six of their last seven games. However, a pending reaction from the Vancouver crowd could give him some extra juice. Kesler makes his return to Vancouver on Thursday night as the Ducks try to get on track against the Canucks. The 30-year-old was a key contributor for the Canucks after they selected him 23rd overall in the 2003 draft. In 655 career games with the franchise, he had 182 goals and 211 assists while also winning the Selke Trophy in 2011. The center also impressed with seven goals and 19 points in 25 playoff games in 2011, when Vancouver made a run to the Cup Finals and lost to Boston in seven games. After Vancouver failed to make the playoffs last season following two straight first-round exits, Kesler was dealt to the Anaheim Ducks on June 27 along with a third-round pick in 2015 for forward Nick Bonino, defenseman Luca Sbisa and a first and third-round selection in 2014. Talking with (general manager) Jim (Benning) and (president of hockey operations) Trevor (Linden) over the summer, I just think we decided that it was time to move on, Kesler said. As hard of a decision that it was to waive my no-trade clause, it was something that had to be done. While Kesler is visiting Vancouver for the first time, it wont be the first time he faces the Canucks. Anaheim played host to Vancouver on Nov. 9 and lost 2-1 in a shootout, with Bonino scoring the lone tally of the tiebreaker. Kesler had a chance to extend the shootout, but his shot rang off the post, a turn of events that probably would have delighted the Vancouver crowd had the game taken place at Rogers Arena. Hopefully they appreciated the 11 years that I played here, and remember the good times. Im hoping for a warm reception, but if not, its part of the game, Kesler said of his return. Its going to be an emotional night for me, but if they boo me, itll probably jack me up even more. Its going to be fun (Thursday). Its going to be an intense night, and Im looking forward to it. Keslers Ducks are just 1-1-5 in their last seven games and struggled in Tuesdays 4-3 shootout loss to the Calgary Flames. The Flames scored three straight third-period goals to take a lead, but Kyle Palmieri tied the game in regulation on a power-play tally. Sean Monahan scored for the Flames to give his club a 2-1 edge in the shootout and Corey Perry misfired in the Ducks last attempt. Sami Vatanen had a goal with two assists and Frederik Andersen stopped 16 shots. Its inexcusable. We all need to get in there and have a couple of good shifts to start the third, said Palmieri. We knew they were going to come hard. We need to be ready to start the third period. Anaheim is expected to get a pair of players back in the lineup tonight. Defenseman Francois Beauchemin is set to return from a five-game absence caused by the mumps, while forward Devante Smith-Pelly will play for the first time in four games due to a shoulder issue. The Canucks, meanwhile, have won five of seven and nine of their last 12 games after posting a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. Yannick Weber had the go-ahead goal with 8:28 left in the game, while Radim Vrbata scored twice. Ryan Miller allowed four goals on 32 shots and also saw the Oilers have a would-be tying goal waived off in the final seconds after it was ruled that David Perron kicked it in with his skate. Thats a game that the coaches probably didnt like, but we got two points, Vrbata said. Eddie Lack could get the start for the Canucks tonight and is 1-4-1 with a 3.24 goals against average and .885 save percentage lifetime versus the Ducks. Andersen is 3-0-1 with a 0.98 GAA and .970 save percentage against the Canucks. Vancouvers victory earlier this month over Anaheim snapped a six-game series losing streak and the club has dropped four straight and six of the past seven at home versus the Ducks. Connor McGovern Cowboys Jersey . "I was born here, I was raised here! This is my ultimate dream!" shouted John Caro, who, with his wife Corina, both 59, whooped their way down Lake City Way in North Seattle and high-fived passersby. "We have waited so freakin long for this!" The Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 43-8 Sunday. The last time a major Seattle sports franchise won a championship was in 1979 when the Supersonics took the NBA title. The WNBAs Seattle Storm have won two championships, in 2004 and 2010. Seattle police were out in large numbers in many neighbourhoods after the game. The department was investigating two shootings that came amid widespread celebrations over the Seahawks Super Bowl win, both near the Pioneer Square neighbourhood, where thousands of fans gathered. The separate incidents occurred just before 12 a.m. Monday and left two victims hospitalized with non-life-tfhreatening wounds, police spokesman Mark Jamieson said. The suspect in the first shooting was apprehended when officers in the area heard the shots and saw him running. No one has been arrested in the other shooting. The motives for the shootings remained unclear. For most of Sunday night the crowd was in a celebratory mood, but later on it turned ugly, with people hurling bottles at police and breaking windows, Jamieson said. Officers in riot gear eventually dispersed the crowd. The Fire Department reported about a half-dozen bonfires around the city, mostly involving couches and mattresses burned in streets. The biggest blaze was near the University of Washington, where one person was arrested for investigation of reckless burning. In all, about six people were arrested, including the suspects in the burning and shooting casses, Jamieson said. Darren Woodson Womens Jersey. In Occidental Park in Pioneer Square, near CenturyLink Field where the Seahawks play, people waving "12th Man" flags took to the streets, and others climbed trees and sculptures. They broke 17 glass panes and caused other damage to a historic pergola that will cost about $25,000 to repair, Joelle Hammerstad, a Parks Department spokeswoman, said Monday. People in some neighbourhoods blocked traffic, and in downtown a line of cars stretched for blocks as people cheered. Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said Sunday night the biggest concentrations of people were downtown and in the University District. He said no major disturbances were reported. By contrast, the mood in Denver was subdued, as expected, with fans downcast and police reporting few problems. Mayor Ed Murray said in a statement that a Seahawks victory parade would occur Wednesday, with a route through downtown and ending at CenturyLink Field. Shrieking and waving her Seahawks flags at passing cars on a North Seattle street, Senayet Woldemarian, a 29-year-old physical therapist from suburban Shoreline, said: "We got our first Super Bowl!" Her friend, wedding photographer Taylor Olcott, 28, said it reminded her a little of being in Boston in 2004, when the Red Sox won baseballs World Series for the first time since 1918. "This is the first time Ive really seen Seattle passionate about anything," she said. "Its, like, East Coast. Its very exciting." About 30 people watched the game at the Outlander Brewery in Seattles Fremont neighbourhood. It was such a blowout that by the fourth quarter, employees had switched one of the three TVs to Animal Planets "Puppy Bowl." "Were all in euphoria right now," said Steve McVay, a 43-year-old Seattle IT worker. "Its a huge deal for the city. Since the Sonics, we havent won anything." ' ' '
NEW YORK, N. Doug Flutie Jersey .Y. - NBA owners went back to work Wednesday on Commissioner Adam Silvers desire to end Donald Sterlings ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. The advisory/finance committee held its second conference call in the past two weeks, reviewing the timing and process for forcing Sterling to sell the franchise following his lifetime ban for making racist comments. League spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement that the committee also discussed the search for a new CEO and got an update on Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatums visit with Clippers employees. The owners plan to meet again next week. Minnesota owner Glen Taylor chairs the committee that also includes Miamis Micky Arison, the Lakers Jeanie Buss, Oklahoma Citys Clay Bennett, New Yorks James Dolan, Bostons Wyc Grousbeck, San Antonios Peter Holt, Phoenixs Robert Sarver, Indianas Herb Simon and Torontos Larry Tanenbaum. Silver banned Sterling from anything to do with the league or the team, fined him $2.5 million, and said he would urge owners to force Sterling to sell the franchise he has owned since 1981. That would require Silver or another owner to charge Sterling with violating Article 13 of the NBAs Constitution and bylaws, which addresses acts that could lead to the termination of ownership. A hearing would then be held and require a three-fourths vote of the board of governors for approval. If that happens, control of the team would fall to the commissioner. The league may already be planning for that, announcing last week that it was working with the Clippers to appoint a CEO. Beyond Sterlings ban, team president Andy Roeser has taken an indefinite leave of absence. Easton Stick Womens Jersey . Jonathan Toews registered the winning goal early in the third period and Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots to put the Blackhawks one win away from the West finals. Bryan Bickell also scored and Patrick Sharp contributed a pair of assists for the Blackhawks. "The whole game, the whole series has been very tight," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said. "I thought we showed more determination in the puck area tonight." In order to end the series in six games, the Blackhawks will have to become the first road team in this postseason to win at Xcel Energy Center. Minnesota is 5-0 in St. Paul in the 2014 playoffs and last lost a postseason game on home ice when Chicago won Game 4 of last springs opening-round series. The Blackhawks went on to win that set with a Game 5 victory on home ice. "We definitely would like to finish it there," Chicago forward Marian Hossa said of Game 6. "We know how hard it is to play in their building and we know we have to be better than we were in the last three games." If Minnesota is able to stay perfect at home on Tuesdday, the clubs will meet Thursday at the United Center for a decisive Game 7. Joey Bosa Jersey. Erik Haula picked up the lone tally for the Wild on Sunday, while Ilya Bryzgalov made 26 saves in defeat. "We had a pretty good start, first period, but then I thought we got soft in our game," Wild head coach Mike Yeo said. Minnesota grabbed a 1-0 lead on Haulas goal with 3:27 left in the first, but Bickell tied it with a power-play goal around the midway point of the second period. The score stayed 1-1 until Chicagos captain delivered the eventual game-winner early in the third period. Chicago took a 2-1 lead with 4:33 played in the third. Hossa kept control of the puck behind the Minnesota cage and drifted from the right side back to the left before dishing into the circle for Sharp. His try to the net was furthered by Hossa, then Toews fended off a Wild checker at the right post and backhanded the rebound home. Crawford backed up the tally by stopping all 14 Minnesota shots in the final 20 minutes. Bryzgalov was called to the bench with 1:47 on the clock, and Crawford endured some close calls on crease rushes by the visitors before the buzzer. "It (stinks) to lose a game like this, and obviously when you lose, youre frustrated, youre mad," Yeo said. "But I think theres been enough in this series where we should feel confident still. That said, we also recognize that wed better be ready." Minnesota dressed defenseman Skip Prosser in place of Keith Ballard, who departed Game 4 with an upper-body injury after being checked from behind by Blackhawks forward Brandon Bollig. Ballard is questionable for Game 6, as is forward Matt Moulson, who sat out the last two games due to an unspecified lower-body injury. Bollig sat out the first of his two-game suspension levied on Saturday and will complete the ban tonight. Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw missed a fourth straight game Sunday with a lower-body injury he suffered in the series opener. He expects to sit out again on Tuesday. ' ' '
TEMPE, Ariz. Wayne Gretzky Jersey . - Arizona quarterback Drew Stanton said he has improved every day and is hopeful he will be cleared to play in the Cardinals game Sunday against the Washington Redskins.Speaking to reporters for the first time this week, Stanton said after Thursdays practice that he is symptom free and hopes to pass tests on Friday that would clear him to play.Stanton sustained a concussion in last Sundays loss at Denver. The status of quarterback Carson Palmer remains uncertain as he works his way back from an injured nerve in his throwing shoulder. If Stanton and Palmer cant play, the start would go to rookie Logan Thomas.Theres a lot of questions in our quarterback room right now, Stanton said.Stanton said that the test he took on Wednesday still found him lagging in some areas. But asked if he thought he had a chance to play Sunday, Stanton said without a doubt.I dont know about chances-wise or percentages or anything like that, but Ive improved every day. Thats the big thing, he said. Ive felt more comfortable with everything a€” being around light and not feeling dizzy or any of that stuff, being able to focus and concentrate, so hopefully tomorrow will be another step forward in that process and we can go from there. For the first time since he was hurt, Stanton was cleared for non-contact activity on Thursday. He said he just loosened up, kind of moved around, threw, went through the game plan stuff, just got a feel for everything. It was my first day of really kind of diving into it.Palmer, who was listed as limited in practice on Thursday, went down in the season opener with a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder, and Stanton has started the three games since. He helped the team beat the New York Giants and San Francisco before last Sundays loss to the Broncos.Thomas, a fourth-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech, played in the fourth quarter of that game, completing one of eight passes, but that one completion went 81 yards, to Andre Ellington, for a touchdown. In case Stanton and Palmer cant go on Sunday, Arizona signed quarterback Dennis Dixon to the practice squad earlier in the week. Dixon would back up Thomas if thats necessary.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Derek Stepan Coyotes Jersey . The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox will wrap up a three-game series at U. Garret Sparks Jersey .S. Cellular Field Sunday as Toronto tries to make a move toward the top spot in the American League East. The Blue Jays will send Drew Hutchison to the mound in the series finale, while Chicago counters with Scott Carroll. Hutchison enters the game with an 8-10 record on the year and a 4.60 earned run average. Despite the losing ledger, Hutchison has struck out 124 batters in 24 starts this season. Its been an up-and-down season for Hutchison, who typically takes one step forward and two steps back when it comes to record. Hes coming off a rough loss Monday in which he lasted 5 2/3 innings against the Mariners, and surrendered six runs on seven hits. He was tagged with the loss, and his ERA has been steadily creeping upward in the summer months. Hutchison has made 15 starts away from home this season, and has a 5-5 record with a 3.66 ERA to show for it. Opponents are hitting .248 against him on the road. Carroll comes into the game with a 4-7 record on the season and a 4.81 ERA with 48 strikeouts and 32 walks. Hes struggled in his last four outings, giving up at least four runs in three of them with an 0-2 record. He last took the mound on Aug. 7 against Seattle and was pounded in five innings of work. Carroll allowed seven runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked three in a 13-3 beatdown at the hands of the Mariners. His last win came back on July 12. Carroll has really struggled at U.S. Cellular Field this season in nine appearances and five starts. Hes picked up a 2-3 record in 41 innings pitched with a dismal 5.71 ERA. Toronto continues to make a push toward Baltimore in the American League East standings, but heads into Sundays contest trailing the Orioles by 6 1/2 games. Toronto helped its cause on Saturday, as Melky Cabrera hit a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning to lift the Blue Jays to a 6-3 win. Jose Reyes finished with two hits, an RBI and a run scored and Jose Bautista, Dioner Navarro and Nolan Reimold each drove in a run for the Blue Jays, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Mark Buehrle, who pitched for the White Sox for 12 seasons, returned to U.S. Cellular Field for the first time since 2011. He allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts over 5 1/3 frames. Brett Cecil (1-3) earned the win after recording two outs, striking out a batter to close the sixth inning and start the seventh. Avisail Garcia returned to the Chicago lineup for the first time since April 9 and supplied two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Chicago, which has dropped two of its last three. "It was a shot in the arm for us, adding another bat," White Sox manager Robin Ventura on Garcia. "He was just really excited. You could see it in the way he was playing." Matt Lindstrom (2-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs in the seventh. Starter John Danks was reached for three runs on seven hits and a walk over in six innings. Despite Saturdays loss, Chicago has still won four of six from the Blue Jays this season. Tie Domi Jersey . - Benched Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman said he has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and voluntarily entered the NFL substance abuse program more than a year ago after mistakenly taking a medication to treat the condition. Auston Matthews Maple Leafs Jersey .Y. -- AJ Allmendingers journey is almost complete. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Chicago Blackhawks were chasing for much of the game, and the Minnesota Wild just kept generating chance after chance to score. Once overtime arrived, though, all Patrick Kane needed was one friendly bounce to finish off another opponent. Kane scored on a backhand at 9:42 of the extra period to lift the Blackhawks to a 2-1 victory over the Wild in Game 6 to clinch their second-round Western Conference series on Tuesday night, the fourth playoff overtime winner of his career. "Hes a special player, and guys have that instinct, have that knack of finding pucks, wanting to be out there, wanting to score," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. Kris Versteeg scored 1:58 into the game and Corey Crawford came up with tough save after tough save among his 34 stops for the Blackhawks, who advanced to the Western Conference finals to meet either Anaheim or Los Angeles. The Ducks lead the other semifinal series 3-2, with the Kings hosting Game 6 on Wednesday night. Since 2009, the first post-season appearance for Kane and co-star Jonathan Toews, the Blackhawks are 14-0 in Games 5 and 6 of playoff series that were tied after Game 4. Theyre also 12-2 in games with a chance to win a series, including 6-1 on the road. "We probably didnt play our best tonight, but just finding a way to win is something this team has done for many years now," Kane said. Erik Haula scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 25 shots for the Wild. Minnesota pushed a frenetic pace for much of the night but paid for all those missed prime opportunities when a simple dump-in behind the net by Brent Seabrook took a strange bounce off the glass back toward the slot. The puck slid past Peter Regin as he was tied up with a defenceman. Kane snagged it, deked once and flipped it into top of the net. He said he wasnt sure right away if the puck was in. But he soon found out. "It seems like it was not our luck tonight," said Bryzgalov, who nearly matched Crawford save for save. "We hit some posts in the third period and they got like the first goal after some crazy two bounces." The Wild kept up the pressure on Crawford that they created in the middle of the game, but whether it was the goalies pads, blocker or a crossbar in the way, the pucks didnt go in. Frederik Gauthier Jersey. . "We really believe that we were capable of doing more than just winning this game," a dejected Wild coach Mike Yeo said, adding: "Our guys did everything that we asked and they laid it on the line, and thats what hurts." The Blackhawks scored first in six of their previous 11 games in these playoffs and won each time, their only victory without taking the first lead coming in Game 5 against the Wild. Versteeg put them right back in control just 1:58 in on his 28th birthday, when he outmuscled Keith Ballard for possession in the corner and flipped an bad-angle shot that bounced awkwardly among the bodies around the crease, hit the back of Clayton Stoners leg and skidded past Bryzgalov. The Wild got their break -- or, rather, breakaway -- soon after the first intermission when Haula sped to snag a pass by Matt Cooke that banked perfectly off the boards and he snapped the puck on the rush past Crawfords glove. Each side brought an aggressive game plan, with defencemen pinching down often and all kinds of rushes developing both ways, particularly in that breathless penalty-free second period that had the home team buzzing so much that Quenneville used his timeout. Crawford made two saves apiece on a pair of breakaways by Justin Fontaine. Cody McCormick tried a spin move to fend off Duncan Keith and nearly got the puck past Crawford, who used his left pad to stop it. "On the road this was probably one of my bigger games of the playoffs so far," Crawford said. "This team seems to enjoy that position where we have a chance to eliminate and move on to the next series. We had a chance to do that and we stuck with it all game." NOTES: Kane moved into the NHL lead with 35 post-season goals since 2009. ... The Wild had goalie Darcy Kuemper dressed for action for the first time since he was removed in the third period of Game 6 of the first round series against Colorado because of what the team labeled an upper body injury. ... The Blackhawks fended off two more power plays in the third period and dropped the Wild to 2 for 20 in the series. ' ' '
PITTSFORD, N. Brian Dumoulin Jersey .Y. -- Bills coach Doug Marrone blew up at his players on Thursday, sending a message that hes fed up with too many fights and post-whistle shoving matches during practice. Marrone cleared the field during the middle of a team drill and ordered players to run sprints after several of them exchanged shoves. That included receiver Marquise Goodwin pushing down rookie cornerback Sam Miller from behind. Marrone then directed his anger at starting defensive end Jerry Hughes on the sideline. Looking directly at Hughes, Marrone used several profanities in telling the player to stop complaining. "Why cant you handle it as players?" Marrone yelled. He then motioned toward the locker room and said: "Do you want to play on this team?" Once again looking at Hughes, Marrone said: "If youve got a problem with me, you need to come and tell me." Marrone spent a few minutes meeting with Hughes following practice. Walking off the field, Hughes referred questions about what happened to Marrone, and added: "the head coach took care of it." Afterward, Marrone said his comments were directed at the team and not Hughes. "Thats directed at anyone who doesnt want to be part of the team," Marrone said. "I told Jerry that I love the way he practices and I love the way he plays special teams and how he goes about it. And weve got to get some other guys who are starters to do that." Marrones blowup occurred on the final day of practice at the Bills training camp facility in suburban Rochester. The Bills will have two more walk-throughs at camp -- both closed to the public and media -- before travelling to Orchard Park on Saturday for their preseason game against Tampa Bay. Several fights have broken out during camp, which opened July 20. The most intense fight occurred Wednesday when rookie defensive end Bryan Johnson ripped off the helmet of centre Eric Wood and then connected with several punches. Numerous veterans stepped in to defend Wood, who sustained a cut on his nose. Johnson was wrestled to the ground by guard Erik Pears and tight end Scott Chandler. Hughes wasnt involved in the fight, but yelled a few things from the sideline, including: "Twenty-one days in pads and counting. I love it!" Marrone, a former NFL offensive lineman, said theres no place in the game for fighting, that it shows a lack of respect for players, coaches and the game. "Figure it out. Were responsible for the integrity of the game," Marrone said. "There is no use for fighting in the game of football. Period. End of discussion." Veteran defensive tackle Kyle Williams spent time counselling Hughes immediately following Marrones blowup. "We talked about being a pro and making sure we keep it that way all the time," said Williams, a nine-year veteran and longtime defensive captain. "Weve been hitting on each other for a while and that kind of thing spills over from time to time," Williams said. "But at a certain point, you have to be a professional and understand theres guys here trying to make the team. And theres a time that youve just got to walk away from it." Running back Fred Jackson, another team captain, welcomed Marrones outburst. "I think guys got it loud and clear today," Jackson said. "We werent getting anything accomplished in the beginning of it. So he had us go to the sideline, get it all out of our system and move on." NOTES: Marrone said WR Sammy Watkins (bruised ribs) and CB Leodis McKelvin (groin) have not been cleared to play against Tampa Bay on Saturday. Watkins has been limited in practice this week since being hurt in a 19-16 loss at Pittsburgh last weekend. McKelvin has missed the past two practices. ... Marrone wont say how long he expects to keep his starters in on Saturday. But he hasnt ruled out playing his starting offensive line in Buffalos preseason finale against Detroit next week. Ron Francis Penguins Jersey . Zach Smith and Alex Chiasson also scored, Kyle Turris had two assists and Robin Lehner had 36 saves. We played pretty good hockey in the third period, said MacArthur, who has four goals this season. We gave up a couple of chances but Lehnny was right there to make the big saves when we needed him.David Savard and Cam Atkinson scored for Columbus, which has lost three in a row due in part to a rash of injuries.Centre Artem Anisimov went down after taking a shoulder in the second period that sent his helmet into the air and left him face down on the ice. Columbus coach Todd Richards said defenceman James Wisniewski broke a finger in the third and likely will miss one to two weeks.Whether Ive done something or someones done something to the hockey gods, Ive never seen any like this, Richards said. It seems like every time we play a game somebody is getting hurt. At least thats what it feels like right now.Curtis McElhinney had 29 saves subbing for Bobrovsky, who was injured in practice on Monday and is expected to miss at least a week. It was McElhinneys first appearance since injuring his neck in a goal-mouth collision on Oct. 18 in a 3-2 loss at Ottawa. The Blue Jackets also had a scare in Sundays 5-2 loss at Los Angeles when Nick Foligno was carted off on a stretcher in a neck brace. Forwards Brandon Dubinsky, Boone Jenner and Nathan Horton have yet to play this season because of serious injuries. While Columbus was struggling with injuriess, Ottawa got better as the game went along. Kris Letang Jersey. We stuck to it and executed when we had to, Karlsson said. The game was tied at 2 before Ottawa converted a 3-on-1 at 3:41 of the third period, with Karlsson beating McElhinney with a wrist shot for his third of the season. It was nice, Karl snuck it in five-hole there, Lehner said. Its one of those good shots he does. A little sneaky. Thats why hes one of the best. The Senators then got a power-play opportunity when Corey Tropp was issued a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for checking Mark Borowiecki into the corner dasher board from behind. Ottawa used a nice passing combination down low to make it 4-2 on Chiassons third of the season at 10:06. Borowiecki did not return. The specialty teams I think end up being the difference in the game, MacLean said.A minute later, MacArthur scored again, slipping home a bouncing puck that had eluded defenceman Ryan Murray. Each team converted a power play in the first period. Savard fired a slap shot from the right circle for his second at 5:18. MacArthur tied it a minute later on a nifty waist-high redirection from the slot.Ottawa made it 2-1 early in the second period on another redirection. After a sloppy Columbus breakout, Cody Ceci found Smith down low for his second. At the 8:04 mark, Anisimov, with his head down skating near the puck, was levelled along the boards by Eric Gryba in what the on-ice officials called a hit to the head. Gryba was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, but Columbus couldnt convert the opportunity.Columbus did respond with just over a minute left in the period. After a faceoff win and quick touch pass from Wisniewski, Atkinson scored from the right circle.Tonight, I thought the players took charge of it and did a real good job, MacLean said.NOTES: Rookie G Anton Forsberg was added to the Columbus roster on emergency recall from the teams AHL affiliate. ... (SportsNetwork. Dennis Rodman Jersey .com) - Peyton Manning and the dark of night? Thats as scary as it gets for the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals inched closer to what would be an ongoing franchise-record fourth consecutive postseason berth in Week 15 when plenty of money signs were flashed but none coming from the player most associated with the overbearing gesture, Johnny Manziel. The Cleveland rookie quarterbacks first career NFL start was as dismal as it gets and the Browns were whitewashed, 30-0, by the AFC North-leading Bengals. But if Jim Ross was getting ready to broadcast the Bengals next game, the famed wrestling announcer might say: Business is about to pick up. Cincinnati can clinch the playoff spot with a win over the AFC West champion Denver Broncos on Monday night, and it can earn the AFC North crown with a win coupled with losses by the Steelers, who play Kansas City on Sunday, and the Ravens, who are at Houston. Were still in control of everything, said Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. We know these next two games are going to be big. The way our division is going, everyone keeps winning. We know what were facing. What their facing is the Boogeyman on Monday Night Football, along with the stark realization that Manziel will be turning into Manning over a one-week span. Thats the equivalent of a basic arithmetic test followed up by one on advanced calculus. Its going to be a big shift, safe to say, Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis admitted. Its a challenge. (Manning) gets everyones attention in this building right away. The player he is, how he carries himself, how he runs things on the field -- its going to be a great challenge for us. Challenge may be an under statement because the Bengals have never beaten Manning whether he was in Indianapolis or Denver, compiling an 0-8 mark when the five-time MVP is lined up opposite them. If that wasnt daunting enough, the game is also going to be played after sundown and thats never a good thing for Cincinnati. The Bengals have played twice in primetime so far this season, getting blown out both times, a 43-17 setback at New England in a Sunday night game on Oct. 5, and a 24-3 drubbing at the hands of the Browns while Brian Hoyer was still in charge on Thursday, Nov. 6. Since Dalton took over the Bengals in the 2011 season Cincinnati is playing .250 football (2-6) under the national spotlight, a sharp contrast from its 37-16-1 mark over that same span during day games. I have no idea, defensive end Wallace Gilberry said when asked about the teams struggles at night. I guess were afraid of the dark. Add in the three playoff losses since 2011 and the Bengals are a downright dismal 2-9 when the spotlight is focused squarely on them and Lewis team is tired of hearing about it. It is annoying and its our job to make it unannoying, safety George Iloka said. If we lose this game, the talk will come back again. But thats (the medias) job to do. And if we want to silence the critics, weve got to put up or shut up. Thats how it goes. It might be annoying, but thats on us. Silencing anyone on Monday is going to be a daunting task. Manning and the Broncos offense have taken a step back from their historical 2013 performance, perhaps the best statistical season in NFL history. That said, when you look up, the numbers remain staggering as Manning is third in the AFC with 4,143 passing yards and even better with 37 TD passes (second in the NFL) and a 106.4 passer rating (tops in the conference). The veteran now has an NFL record 14 career 4,000-yard passing seasons and headlines an offense that is fifth in the NFL in both yards (400.7 yards per game) and points per game (29.1). If anything the group has become more well-rounded in recent weeks because of the emergence of the ground game and C.J. Anderson, who is averaging 135.3 scrimmage yards per game (812 total) with six total TDs (four rushing, two receiving) over the past six games. The receiving threats, meanwhile, remain as good as any in football led by Demaryius Thomas, who has 1,389 receiving yards and leads all AFC receivers with 41 TD catches since entering the league in 2010. His running mate, Emmanuel Sanders, has a career-high 1,261 yards and seven TD catches over his past nine games. The Cincinnati defense looked like world-beaters against Manziel but has taken a significant step back overall without Mike Zimmer, now the head coach in Minnesota. The Bengals D entered last weeks contest 25th in the league and are now 20th after dominating Manziel. The 25 number is probably more indicative of where Cincinnati belongs because facing a QB who isnt ready to play in the NFL is an anomaly and certainly not what the Bengals will be up against on Monday night. We have to get through this game before we have any opportunities at January, Lewis said. Its been (a playoff mentality) for the last seven weeks. Preparation and how you go about it, and the confidence of knowing what to do and how to do it allows you to play fast. Thats the most important thing, for us: to play fast, to play physical, to play smart. Elgin Baylor Jersey . - Novak Djokovic beat John Isner 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-1 on Saturday to reach the final of the BNP Paribas Open, where hell resume his longtime rivalry with Roger Federer. Dennis Rodman Lakers Jersey . - The Oakland Athletics say they are stopping negotiations to extend their lease at the Coliseum.SAN DIEGO -- Tony Gwynns sweet swing was matched only by his incandescent smile. The Hall of Famer was saluted at Petco Park on Thursday night in a ceremony that would have made "Mr. Padre" light up. Though, that wasnt something Gwynn had trouble doing. "It was so engaging," former teammate Steve Garvey said of Gwynns grin. "There are a few guys in sports that have it. You always think of Magic (Johnson), and Tony was baseballs Magic as far as that smile was concerned." Gwynn, a Hall of Famer who spent his entire 20-year career with the Padres, died on June 16 from oral cancer, a disease he attributed to years of chewing tobacco. He was 54. The 15-time All Star averaged .338 over a career in which he had 3,141 hits and won eight NL batting titles. A two-sport star at San Diego State before getting selected by the Padres in the third round of the 1981 draft, he was beloved for his achievements on the field and his humility on and off it. Gwynn never hid his affection for San Diego, embracing his "Mr. Padre" nickname and declining to leave San Diego as a free agent on numerous occasions. After retiring from the Padres following the 2001 season, Gwynn became SDSUs baseball coach. Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson and ex-Padre Trevor Hoffman were among the speakers who addressed the crowd of about 20,000 from a stage erected in right field, just in front of the No. 19 carved into the outfield grass. A podium was placed between three No. 19 Gwynn jerseys, two from the Padres World Series appearances in 1984 and 1998 and one from San Diego State. The left-field scoreboard showed a collage of pictures that ranged from Gwynn tipping his hat to the crowd and to him clutching his Hall of Fame plaque. And, of course, one displaying that warm smile. "We all know Tony was a great player, a great Hall of Famer," Jackson said. "That is known when he got 97 per cent of the vote -- that puts him in the top four or five. ... "He was a genuine man, a quality man, a 100 per cent family man. A great son, a great husband, a great father, a great friend and a great teammate. He was an example of whhat we all want to live and emulate as a person. Kurt Rambis Lakers Jersey. " Thursdays tribute, which started when 19 white doves were released, was open to the public following the private service Gwynns family held Saturday at SDSU. Gwynns fans, many wearing his brown-and-yellow No. 19 jersey, were given a chance to pay their respects to someone they felt they knew. He was an anchor of not only the Padres two World Series teams, but in the community as well. After leaving the Padres, he coached at SDSU, was a member of the Padres broadcasting team and remained active in various charities. A stream of people walked past Gwynns statue in the adjacent Park at the Park, with a line snaking past memorabilia of his storied career. Gwynn, whose No. 19 is retired by the Padres, batted at least .300 in 19 straight seasons. In 1994, he was hitting .394 in August when the season ended prematurely because of the baseball strike; in 1995, he struck out only 15 times in 577 plate appearances. But it was the way Gwynn carried himself that endeared him to countless fans. And not just those in San Diego. Gwynn has been honoured around baseball since his death. Tony Gwynn Jr., his son, was given a standing ovation Tuesday in Philadelphia in his first at-bat with the Phillies since taking a leave following his fathers death. "Even though he was on the other team you still had to admire the way he went about his business," said Joe Torre, an executive vice-president for Major League Baseball and former Yankees manager. "Unfortunately we dont have many, maybe any -- maybe Derek Jeter -- that conduct themselves in a similar fashion. "Honestly, what you saw is what you got: he was a good hitter and never tried to show anybody up." Gwynn became and stayed a star in San Diego. He never thought it would shine brighter elsewhere. "Im a Padre, a San Diego Padre," Gwynn once said. "And Im proud of it." Near the end of the tribute Hoffman, in a halting voice, talked straight to Gwynn, his former Padres teammate. "Thank you for representing San Diego," Hoffman said, "with such class." ' ' '
